All Blacks Head Coach Steve Hansen said the 22-year-old had not presented with any signs of concussion after the Test against Tonga last week but developed symptoms after the first training session this week.
Ta$man loose forward Shannon Frizell has been called in and will arrive in Japan on Saturday. Hansen said loose forwards Vaea Fifita and Dalton Papalii weren't considered for selection because they are currently injured.

Thought Liam Square was on standby in case of injury...
Who is this Liam Square character?
Fuck that's a blow. Really hope Jacobson gets his head right. Huge .potential.
Frizell is pretty bloody average.
Only positive is that Fifita isn't going. -
I’m wondering if Jacobson will end up retiring early. If you get ruled out from concussion after holding the tackle bags it’s hard to see how you are going to survive a rugby career. Feel disappointed.
So Shannon F dropped early, now head of queue. Weird.

Clearly he didn’t fit into the hole in the squad

Strange old one as concussions can be bloody finicky and he said he seems to be doing OK. All things being even he wasn't going to play for 20 days at minimum so it seems a little premature. Even if scrubbed out in the first week of October, perhaps Squire is up for it then?
Maybe just too many guys are on managed loads and they need live bodies in these practice sessions.

I haven't seen any Mitre 10. What has Frizzell's form been like??

McCaw copped a few in the mid 2000's, and some wondered if he was done. This could well just be precautionary given his age and experience - which woudl be really good. OTOH, if it's concussion after concussion he could be cooked.
I'm pleased they take it seriously. Dropping a lpayer at the RWC for delayed concussion symptoms sets a standard that others could hit as well (Wales + George North -- looking at you as an example)
Edit: sounds like symptoms they just want to get clear of
"I'm feeling 98 percent okay, I know I'm still not quite right and by taking a break now, I'll give myself the opportunity to continue my career in the future.

He's been on the bench the odd match and that got him into the ABs originally - so good I guess.
I think Papali'i would have been next in line if not injured.

Hard to say given Papali’i hasn’t exactly had heaps of game time when in the AB squad.
Frizzell is at least a known quantity.

Dalton himself seems quite injury prone.

He's mainly been playing lock for the Mako. Going reasonably well.
