@ACT-Crusader said in RWC squad. Who's in, who's out?:

The game I remember was back in 2017 in Cape Town. The one we won by a whisker. I thought he actually looked the part. Put in a strong 80 minute effort, played the tight game and tackled well.

That was the game I was referring to. But the exception rather than the norm for Squire.

(tongue in cheek) keeping his powder dry for the RWC?

Physically, he's probably the closest we had to Kaino, and probably the best of the contenders. That said, he's a fair step down.

I suspect if he goes, Matt Todd stays at home though... being the third 7 in the squad can't be a good thing

There would be room for both Squire and Todd in the 5 loose forwards. Todd's problem is that he doesn't offer any utility value, which is important in a RWC squad. The coaches will want options.

@nzzp no way will they not take Ioane!

Just taking a bit longer than normal to wash the Blues off him ๐Ÿ˜‰

Considering he clocked up more metres and more line breaks than Reece from similar runs I think it's the AB camp we need to wash off him.

He will make the squad and likely start at left wing so I don't know what I'm arguing ๐Ÿ™‚

But I did get the impression that his output was far greater in the first half of the super season than the second half.

I play fantasy super rugby (you get points for metres made, linebreaks, tackles etc) every year and Reiko has been a must have player since he debuted, however his points output this season dropped dramatically in the second half of the season (like his brother, who has done that the last 2 years) to the point where most people had dropped him from their squads.

Anyway, I'm not sure where we find the stats to confirm (or not).

Just watched the Ta$man game, am still not convinced that Squire is good enough. He's a bit cumbersome and didn't have much impact at the breakdown (compare this to Papalii). His main strength is that he offers another good lineout option but I fail to see what else he's outstanding at. Hopefully he gets better over the next few weeks but I wouldn't be confident seeing him in an AB 23. They missed a trick by not giving Paps more game time in black imo.

@SammyC So what I'm hearing is that you consider Rieko to be so good he can rack up better numbers than Reece in half a season of Super Rugby? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Only 7 games in a RWC, less than half a Super comp so it's all good.

But Ardie isnโ€™t a 7. Heโ€™s played on the blindside and at no.8, so Todd is the backup openside.

    i love a redemption story!

Might have a couple of issues getting over the gain line with that pack though...

ACTC is John Mitchell! Very clever disguise Mitch!

@Chris-B This team will be a closely guarded secret so I doubt the media will know too much before the live announcement.

Speaking of which, to watch the live broadcast on Wed do you need to be subscribed to Spark Sport or can we see it if you have signed up to the RWC pass only?

4 years ago there was a leak , cant remember exactly where it came from , but we were hearing NMS and Naholo were in and dagg was out, before it was announced

At one point the fern got the good oil on a couple of important squad announcements, because someone knew the tailor who was making the ABs blazers.

    ๐Ÿ˜Ž

You John tried teh "hide the journeyman fullback at centre" trick, while Henry tried the patented Auckland coach method of "put the world's best fullback at centre and just throw the 2nd best bloke at the back"

    Both with predictable results.

Kept on bloody losing my login.

I have a feeling we won't be getting a team prior to announcement, as this one will be done live and nothing will be released to my reporter friends prior to embargo.

In 2015, set my alarm at 2 am to hear the squad. Too old for that now ๐Ÿ˜ž

My prediction for the shock is Owen Franks not being selected: has lost his TH starting spot, not a good bench option, doesn't play LH.

Otherwise I expect a very predictable team - Laumape will miss out, they will take 4 locks, 3 x 9s, 2 x 10s, and the loose forwards will be the starting trio + Squire + Todd.

@SouthernMann Booo hissss, that's so unfair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have lost our "I heard a rumour from a friend of a friend of a friend" status who seemed to have brilliant ESP abilities to get pretty much spot on selections that got rather close to the actual named lineups come the standard Thursday 0500hrs release.
