CWC Final - Black Caps v England
-
Absolutely great game to be at.
Only just saw replay of double hit for 6. If that is in the rules it should be changed.
England were second best, but owing to a sequence of rule oddities have their name on the trophy.
Feel like Black Caps deserve a ticker tape.
So proud.

It feels very weird - still pondering that deflection off Stokes' bat and the fact that it took it from 7 off 2 balls to 3 off 2 balls. Cannot remember every seeing that over many years of watching cricket and the fact that it happened at that stage of a World Cup final is just bizarre.
And Trent - don't step back bro
That deflection was almost hand of god-ish in its game turning fortunes.

I think I would have been ok losing in a second super over, bowl off, wickets, higher place in the round robin etc. But number of boundaries is fucking stupid. How you get runs shouldn't determine a World Cup final.
Or who won the game in the group stages.
Which of course would have screwed us but would be more fair.

You can't point at any one thing. England got the rub of the green many times, both in luck and by the umpire.Should have been Kane needling a 4 rather than Guppy running himself out...
I didn't get to see the whole match - what was the rub of the green from the umpires?

Some of it was self inflicted. Nicholls and Guppy blew our review when he was plumb lbw, which had a flow on effect when Erasmus gave Rosco out LBW off a ball that looked high in real time and we had no review. He also gave Roy not out lbw first or second ball, DRS was about 1cm from over turning but went to refs call

well, shit aye.
I'm actually not sure how to feel. We can't even fall back on being beaten by a better side on the day. Because we weren't beaten.
Get my rant in. What fuckwit came up with most boundaries as the 2nd tie-breaker? Effectively England have been handed the cup for having less scoring shots than us? In what way is that a good measurement? Get absolutely fucked. I am not having that. Celebrate you pommy (UN) fucks, we all know it feels hollow.
Two bad pieces of luck in the last couple of overs. But that overthrow 6 is about as unlucky as you can possibly get. Right there you know it is not your day. Fucking hell.
I thought we were 30 runs short, turns out we were one. Imagine if we didn't duck under the last ball of the innings?

On the selections for the super over, i think they got it bang on, those are the two i would have gone with. Our two best power hitters who can go from the first ball. Guptill is also really quick between the wickets. And they damn near pulled it off.

After round one we beat SL by ten wickets and the Windies beat Pakistan by seven. They went to the top of the table when I reckon we should have.
Why do the organisers not seem to give a fuck about wickets lost in the overall scheme of things ? it should be the most important part of any complicated cricket equation.

That was the last chance for many of this group, gutted for them
Guptill and Southee have both fallen off a cliff in terms of form which they may never get back. I think it's safe to say they won't be there next time round.
you'd imagine Rossco will have retired by the next cup but the others are all young enough to have another hoon you'd imagine.
-
Next CWC is in India so unless we acquire a bunch of allrounders who are spin bowlers I doubt we will be in the final again.

This is about where I'm at with it too. Although in a way I feel bad for both sides as England will always have a bit of asterix on the title and the lack of closure will likely torment NZ more than a loss. I'm not entirely sure I would be that much happier if NZ had "won" on an equally ridiculous countback.
The NZ team can be very proud, they played great cricket and did not wilt under the pressure and in the last two games added more to the lore of NZ cricket history than other teams did in an entire four year cycle. I juts hope for the Black Caps that in time the absurdity and incredible nature of the result or lack thereof a little easier to swallow.
On the bright side I look forward to Kane on commentary at the 2039 CWC semi final talking about this game at length...

Latham, Nicholls, Kane, Blundell, Mitch, Sodhi, will all be there. Boult is 30, not sure about Henry. Neesh is one injury away from retirement. CWC in India will be tough, the last 2 cups in conditions favoured us more than the subcontinent teams
