CWC Final - Black Caps v England

Who would have fucking thought just over 4 years ago we would make 2 consecutive CWC finals.
No matter how it goes on Sunday thats pretty fucking amazing.Around about that time we'd just been absolutely destroyed by South Africa including being bowled out for 50 in one innings. But as a few others have said we're witnessing probably two of our top 3 all time batsmen, another who is in the top 10 of our ODI batsmen (and maybe even squeaks into the top 5), plus a bowler who is at least in the top three.

@Virgil and making the final is enough for me.
Been burned too many times when expecting something from my cricket team so quite frankly I don't give a toss if we win, or how well we do.
Going to approach this final with zen like serenity without giving the result any thought time.
The boys have done enough the result won't detract from that -
I hope the poms don't win the cricket and the rugby World Cups this year. How unbearable would that be?
-
@Siam They have exceeded my expectations in terms of progressing to the Final but some of the performances, both individually and collectively, have been worse than I anticipated.
I do give a toss how well they do. I expect they will lose. It's a damn fine England team, but I hope they don't get humiliated and play intelligent cricket - unlike last time round. What we all really hope for of course is a performance for the ages - one that sees even Kane crack a small smile as he lifts the trophy.

Kane is exactly 100 runs shy of equaling Sharma as the tournaments top run scorer.
its like the cricketing Gods are setting him up to score a WC winning 101*...You are officially banned from watching.

@taniwharugby yes that's the dream. Has it been done before? Aus would be the only ones if so.
The Aussies did it in 99. There wasn't a (cricket) world cup in 91 (it was 92). If you count the 91/92 as a double it doesn't help since Pakistan won that year.
Thinking about this one a little more. Although 99 is the only time anyone has done the double there are a couple of examples of double finalists.
England contested the 91 RWC final and 92 CWC (losing both)
Australia won the 2003 CWC, and lost in the final in the RWC
Australia won the 2015 CWC and competed in the RWC final that year.

Oh well England will have to do, had hoped for a shot at redemption vs the Aussies.
Meanwhile the Aussie press conference after the loss to England....
There he is! Welcome back, angry man.
Bet you had those ready to go the minute you woke up 😉
Unfortunately (for you) the Aussie press conference probably looked like Finch being perfectly reasonable and forthright

That's such a punchable head.
Meanwhile in the twitter universe, Australian ex-cricketers are appearing magnanimous and sporting in comparison to some of their English counterparts.

As someone who watches way less cricket than rugby...have we got a realistic chance? Watching the highlights, England looked like they totally destroyed Australia.
Came here to ask the same thing. Was surpised to see how easily England crushed Australia, they looked really good.

I felt like Aussie were as much to blame for the lopsided result as the English. The English opening bowlers were great, but there was a significant drop off in quality after that and the aussie bats were unable to make hay. India looked super strong before the SF too and look how that turned out

Well we should all be sending @booboo to bed now. We can't risk leaving it too late.

Realistically, on current form, England probably win three times out of four.
I don't think we can afford to let them set their own tempo - so my prescription for victory is to win the toss and bat. Then we need our openers - and particularly Gup, Gup, Guppy - to finally come to the party.
If, by chance, Nicholls is injured enough that he can't play, I think we should push Latham up to open and bring Blundell in to keep and bat six. Woakes has Munro's number, so it's mainly wishful thinking and rolling the dice way too far to think both Guppy and Munro will suddenly come good.
Post 280+ and grab a couple of early wickets and let the pressure carry England into oblivion!
