I'm going to look at a positive the most important player in the final was born in NZ and his Dad was supporting us. Wonder how that conversation went?

After that deflection: "You fucking cheated son. I know you."

Do we blame Santner for ducking the last ball instead of swinging his bat at it?

In all honesty, I don't think we could have done much more. It was almost as if they were going to win no matter what. The stars aligned for them. The deflection of Stokes' bat is the most bizarre thing to ever happen on a a cricket field. When that happened, I knew it wasn't going to be our day.

Or his waste of a free hit. But no, not his fault, the team wins, the team loses.

Good to see a local boy lift the World Cup for England.

    @JC
You can't point at any one thing. England got the rub of the green many times, both in luck and by the umpire.

Should have been Kane needling a 4 rather than Guppy running himself out...

@JC Agreed. That first statement was just me venting. Wasn't anyone's fault, apart from the fat fucker from South Africa.

A world cup final decided by number of boundaries is really quite shit.

Yes, again, we bowled really well...but farrrrrr out to have had another 10 runs. Even another 5. So many fucking what ifs with this game, all the way to the super over. Gah.

Worst part was that it came off the traitor's bat.

That was rather than the non-striker being run out by a deflection, and at what a time...! The joys of sport I suppose...

The only consolation is that it was one of the greatest games of one day cricket ever.

Would suck to wake up to that score though.

That's no consolation to me. Would rather have lost badly than to lose under these circumstances.

So proud of the team but gutted to get so close and lose in that manner.

There will be (rightfully) some criticism of the choice of Guptill for the super over. CdH would have been a much better option as he has the ability to bludgeon good balls to the boundary.

@Bovidae But CDGH had played so badly with the bat, it would have been a huge ask to put him in.

Previously, matches at the World Cup have been decided by least wickets lost. Under the old rules New Zealand would have won. 😞

To be fair, we saw CdH facing Archer earlier on and all the bludgeoning that was going on was by the bowler. CdH got a hiding.
