    @Steven-Harris said in Crusaders 2020:

Spoke to a good friend who is close to Scott Robertson last night , apparently Robertson said the process was a complete waste of his time, he got the impression the NZRFU had already well and truly made their minds up.
One particular comment to a question got Scott Robertson’s back up big time and quite frankly I thought as an organisation we were a lot better than this..
He was asked a question in and around his philosophy and the processes he would bring to the All Black coaching role ..after explaining what he would bring to the table, Graham Henry barked across the table in a patronising voice ,“well that’s a real Crusaders way of doing things..!.
Are you bloody kidding me..?, the smug former All Black coach who should never have been on this panel shows his true colours ..I thought we had moved on from this sort of behaviour..
Well Mr Henry the Crusaders way of doing things seemed to work really well under Robertson’s watch 3 x years in a row and he did not have the luxury of having McCaw and Carter..
Just rather confirms to me once again how farcical this process has been..

Can you imagine how stupid they are going to look if Robertson leads the Saders to another title and Foster has a shocker in his first dig..!

Highlighted the only thing in this post which surprised me ...

The Crusaders have completed their 2020 coaching panel by appointing former Wales wing Mark Jones as defence coach.

Jones, 40, will also work with Canterbury in the NPC.https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/super-rugby/118743112/former-wales-wing-mark-jones-joins-crusaders-coaching-team

    Here's the official media release:

Mark Jones joins Crusaders and Canterbury Mitre 10 Cup coaching teams
    Published: 13 January 2020

Former Wales international Mark Jones has been confirmed to join both the Crusaders and Canterbury Mitre 10 Cup campaigns for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Jones is the fifth coach confirmed for the Crusaders, completing the balance of the coaching group for 2020. He will fill a specialist role assisting with team defence and position-specific player development.

Crusaders CEO Colin Mansbridge said: “It’s exciting to confirm Mark’s appointment to our Crusaders coaching group, and I’m sure he’ll embrace the opportunity to coach at Super Rugby level.

“Mark brings a wealth of skills and experience from his time as both a player and a coach overseas, and he’ll offer a fresh perspective to our group which will be extremely valuable as we build towards our 2020 campaign. It’s great to welcome Mark, his wife and two sons to Christchurch,” Mr Mansbridge said.

Crusaders Head Coach Scott Robertson added: “We believe Mark is going to provide a real point of difference to the Crusaders, with his Northern Hemisphere skill set and extensive game knowledge. I’m confident he’ll connect quickly with our playing group and will be a huge asset over the next two seasons.”

Mark Jones is a former Scarlets winger, who represented the club for 12 years, and was named Captain of the side in 2009. He worked his way through the Under 18, Under 19 and Under 20 age-grades for Wales, making his debut for the national side in 2001 and going on to win a Six Nations Grand Slam in 2008. Jones also attended two Rugby World Cups, in 2003 and 2007, retiring from the game in 2010 with 47 international caps to his name.

His transition to coaching followed shortly after the end of his playing career, when he signed on as a skills and attack coach with Scarlets from 2010-2015. Jones was attack coach for Wales during their successful 2013 Six Nations Grand Slam, and went on to become Head Coach of Rotherham Titans and RGC 1404. Most recently, he was with Namibia at the 2019 Rugby World Cup as an attack coach.

For Canterbury Rugby (CRFU) this appointment follows December’s announcement that Reuben Thorne and Mark Brown will lead the Mitre 10 Cup programme as co-coaches. Jones will step in to the role of Backs Coach with Canterbury.

CRFU CEO Tony Smail said: “Mark will play an active role from the beginning of this year in helping to build our 2020 programme, adding value to the community game from the start of the club season, alongside Reuben Thorne and Mark Brown.

“He has an impressive skill set that we believe will complement our new co-coaches, and his vast experience ensures he’ll add value when he oversees the backs in the Mitre 10 Cup,” Mr Smail said.

Jones said he is grateful for what is a unique opportunity to coach with both the Crusaders and Canterbury sides: “This is a fantastic opportunity for me to continue my development as a coach, with organisations that are highly regarded worldwide as setting a benchmark in provincial and Super Rugby.

“It’s a big step for myself and my family to move to New Zealand, but the chance to be involved in the game at grassroots level through to Super Rugby, and work alongside world class coaches and players at Rugby Park, was too good to miss. I’m looking forward to contributing my own ideas to these two great organisations,” Jones said.

Interesting interview with Scott Robertson. Click on the picture for the audio (which is about much more than the written text).

Codie Taylor and David Havili will be the vice-captains supporting captain Scott Barrett.
It sounds like it's still open who will play 12 & 13: Goodhue, Havili, McLeod all named as options for the 2nd five eighth spot.

@Stargazer surely has to be Havili. It's probably a matter of having all the best players on the park and whether they see Goodhue as a 12 or a 13 moving forward. I'd suggest they would most likely leave Goodhue at 13 which means Havili would probably have the experience to shift into 12. Then you would probably have to start Jordan at 15, with Ennor as utility impact off the bench.

Early signs are Goodhue/Ennor Mid field combination if both are fit to start the season.Jordan off the bench

Would it be too hard to put Ennor at 12? Goodhue is such a great natural 13 it doesn't make sense to move him.

@Yeetyaah Ennor is a centre/wing. I don't think I've ever seen him play at 12. Havili to 12 makes much more sense.

@mikey07 Not sure for how long. No doubt, it will only be for preseason. I assume he's been there to cover for Mo'unga's during his ABs break.

SR franchises must have been scraping the barrel this year, because so many players - who missed out on a SR contract and would normally have joined them for preseason - have ended up taking up contracts in Japan or the USA.

Alex Ainley looks like he's setting out to surpass Brad Thorn!

38.5 years old and in training with the Crusaders!
