Highlanders 2020

McKay has been ordinary on defence in general with a couple of glaring missed tackles as the last line of defence thrown in. He's been ok with ball in hand but has scored at least one opportunistic try which might influence the perception of his play.
Punivai needs to back himself. He has size and pace but doesn't seem to want to use either. It's almost like he doesn't feel like he can impose himself on a game. Reminds me of Patrick Osborne in his first couple of years.

If anyone is looking for the official media release about the signing of Mitchell Hunt, Jona Nareki, Ngane Punivai and Connor Garden-Bachop by the Highlanders, here it is: https://thehighlanders.co.nz/media-centre/news/982-experience-and-youth-feature-of-latest-recruits

"Aki Seiuli has signed a two-year contract with Glasgow Warriors, subject to visa and medical.
The 26-year-old has made 38 appearances for the Highlanders in Super Rugby and will link up with former teammate Siua Halanukonuka at Scotstoun this year".
That's a shame I always thought he was a good contributor to the Highlanders, especially off the bench with his energy and mobility.

@Daffy-Jaffy Yeah, underrated player.

The Collins signing is up there with that mystery āhigh profileā signing they had a few years ago.
I noticed they didnāt mention his communication skills though.Didnāt Collins just sign a 1 year extension at the Blues? Or was that for last season?
Good to see they have signed Koroi and Nareki. They will have some pretty exciting young players on their books.

That was last season. He hadn't re-signed with the Blues for 2020.

Are the Highlanders crazy? Have Tony Hanks and Tana Umaga taken over recruitment down there or something?

Yeah...nah. It's a good signing, good, reliable player. Won't be the first time a player leaves the blues and looks better...

So the Highlanders now have McKay, Garden-Bachop, Collins, Gregory, Punivai, Nareki and Koroi in their back three arsenal. That must be their outside spots all wrapped up now surely.

Gregory and Koroi are with the NZ 7s side next year

@98blueandgold thereās a general consensus up here in the North that Gregory is being played out of position at fullback ,midfield to me looks a better option ,he has some talent no question but has got to get consistency into his game ..chatting to him last night at ground level heās definitely a solid unit, looks around 95kgs 1.86
Heard the Highlanders are in chats with Northland lock/6 Temo Mayanavanua..he was in the Blues Development Team this year ,very sizeable unit ..120 Kgs 1.96 .former Fiji under 20 captain 2 x years ago , will be 22 in November..more of a traditional NZ style of forward and is very coachable.
Was really good against Hawkes Bay ,and superb off the bench against Manawatu, added some much need physicality and go forward..spoke to Temo last night,has a deep cut on his calf but should be back for the Wellington game.
