CWC Game #8 Black Caps v Australia
-
Alright so the juggernaut got a bit unexpectedly smashed to pieces by Pakistan who had superior tactics and were far more clinical than us on the night. I.E. we got the good Pakistan which means we are not quite guaranteed a semi final spot.
As mentioned in the other thread it appears we won't be making any changes. I can kind of understand that, throwing Nicholls or Blundell in cold against the Aussies would be rough, we really needed to change it up sooner when it wasn't working. That said, Munro vs Starc has to be one of the biggest mis-matches of the tournament so far.
An ideal scenario would be bowl first, Boult finds his mojo and rips them a new one.
It's important we don't implode tonight as NRR may well be very important in the end.
Anyway bring it on you dirty cheating Aussies!

Starc can not wait to bowl at our openers

I hear it will be perfect swinging conditions so my guess is we win the toss and bat first....

I think Stead has been reading books about field Marshall Haig

The annoying thing is Nicholls actually has runs against Aus in the past as well. Added to the fact that no teams have been getting away to fliers, and that wickets in hand has been the most successful tactic, hoping against hope that Munro comes off is an extraordinarily low percentage play.

We don't need to win this game. If Stead doesn't play Nicholls now when will he play him?
-
Hope our openers show some spine and application in the first 10-15 overs. Guppy is close I reckon, and a really good innings from him could plaster over another Munro failure.. but we'd have to be looking at a big bloody century!!
-
@Paekakboyz you realise we are still opening with Munro right?
-
@mariner4life yep, the first part of my post is wishful thinking, the second part about how it might actually pan out!!
-
@Paekakboyz you're right though. Finch and and Warner are the same type of stroke makers as Guppy and flatters to deceive - or at least they were before this world cup where they've decided that proper cricket shots to balls on merit is the order of the day. Is it 3 hundy partnerships?
Don't order a toastie at the start of our innings Kane.

Yes. We. Do.

Wash your mouth out @canefan
It’s Straya mate, we need to win everything against them.

Stead finally switches off the mindless autopilot:
Kane Williamson: ""We would have batted too. Two changes - Ish Sodhi comes in for Matt Henry, and also Henry Nicholls comes in for Colin Munro."
Latham survives another day to attempt to scratch his way into form. Australia batting first.
-
Fuck yeah, Nichols and Ish are in! Let's chop the head off this aussie snake and put em under pressure. But the pitch looks like a ripper
-
So Nicholls has to prove himself against Aus after Munro used up all of the games against lesser opposition?
Still, happy he's finally in the side. Munro's chance of success against their bowling lineup was close to 0.

This shows that Stead is just guessing though. We were lucky to have Hesson, who made plans and followed them through. The new coaching team is just making it up as they go along; it seems like back to the future. With luck, it'll work, but it should have been tried before now.
