Hurricanes v Blues

@Canes4life How can anyone know whether players are or aren't good enough without giving them game time? All players in the squad need to get their opportunities. That has always been my point and it still stands.
-
@Higgins a 22 year old prop still learning his craft goes down a few times throughout the 50 mins he's on the field, whoop dee doo. He will only get better in that area. Did you catch the try he set up after running over Parsons, or the big tackles he was putting in on defence. Shit tone better than Toomaga Allen already and he's only just started.
-
@Canes4life He gets touted as the next big thing as a prop. I have yet to see it in his propping exhibitions displayed during his very limited Super Rugby experiences. Incidentally if his "goes down a few times" happens hard on defence it can have major consequences.
-
@Stargazer Fair enough, but they also need to take those chances and if Lowe wants to feature more often going forward he needs to finish those tries off, because guys like Goosen and Aso have been doing it for the past two seasons. Essentially if he wants to start he needs to be better than those blokes. Really liked the jibe of young Toala.
-
@Higgins I agree, he has to be better in that area if he wants to reach the highest level, but to be fair he is only 22. Given the right coaching he will be okay IMO. Shown glimpses of being a good scrummager, but just needs that consistency. He is very impressive in all other aspects of the game, which will allow him to put more focus into his scrummaging going forward.

I did too but thought he did struggle reading the defence duties needed a couple of times. Perhaps he found the huge difference in pace the game is played at in Super Rugby compared to NPC a bit challenging. SOmething that can be oversome with a few more runs at the quicker higher level.

@Canes4life Goosen and Aso have had plenty of opportunities before they started playing well. Particularly Goosen has taken years to become a good player, but at least he got plenty of opportunities. Lowe gets a short run after 4 months on the sideline; only his 2nd cap for the Canes in 3 years. Demanding he's better than guys who've had plenty of game time is hugely unfair and ridiculous. What he needs is stringing games together. Hopefully next year.
-
@Higgins Yeah but I again I think he will be fine once he spends more time in the environment. Also, I thought he was a Fullback so fair play to the kid for jumping in at 12 - a position that he is fairly unfamiliar with. (correct me if I'm wrong on that).
-
@Canes4life You're wrong. He has played plenty at both 12 and fullback. I think all his 4 games for the Magpies were at 12. At school level he played both.
-
@Canes4life He seemed to play midfield mostly whilst at HBHS and I was mightly impressed with him when I took in the HBHS v Well Coll game at Well Coll a couple of years back. He oozed class playing second five that day.
-
@Stargazer With all the games I've seen Lowe play I just don't get what all the fuss is about. Hopefully he gets more game time, because I would like to see if he can deliver at this level. Kudos to the kid if he does.
-
@Higgins @Stargazer Oh right, so what would his best position be then?
-
On the upside lads my TAB account is up by $160..5-24 at $8 was too good an opportunity to pass up..you just knew the Blues would find a way..!.
-
@Steven-Harris I actually joked with a mate at halftime that the Blues would find a way, and sure enough.
-
@Canes4life Lowe has been excellent during Canes preseason, M10 Cup and for the MABs. He scored plenty of tries. But also noteworthy is that he is best at centre, and they play him on the wing, which is unfortunate.
By the way, all the fuss I've made is about him not getting opportunities. I've never said he's a superstar (at SR level), because basically, we don't know yet how good he can be.
-
@Stargazer I'm sure there will be a fair amount of competition next year for those wing positions - whether it's Goosen, Aso, Toala, Lowe, Rayasi or Lam - I guess whoever gets the chance will need to be playing bloody well. Good to have that competition and depth.

you can see what SBW brings. Big, fast, offloading machine, with the track record not to choke under severe pressure.
He goes AWOL far too often at Test level IMHO. He may be a great guy, but for every miracle pass there's a knock-on, offside, fumble or brain-fart. He almost cost us a game against France by idiotically knocking the ball over the dead-ball line.
You didn't see that with Nonu.
-
@Victor-Meldrew and he cost us the Lions tour.
