@Bones more of hindsight comment, now that his stakes have gone up,I would imagine a couple of other franchises would be looking a lot more attractive
Would imagine a couple of other franchises would have said "Tom who? No we've got an All Black thanks".
-
@Steven-Harris Yeah, and they stayed loyal, which suggests they want to help turn things around. They could have fucked off and taken the easy way out by joining a successful franchise with guaranteed finals footy every year but they didn't and they deserve credit for that.

Score?

@ACT-Crusader 29-28 Reds.

@ACT-Crusader Reds 29 - 28 Blues

@Steven-Harris not any different to the fact I had heard Sam Nocks dad tried to encourage him away from signing for Northland, but Sam had grown up wanting to play for Northland, similarly Robinsin with Northland and Blues.
Still a bit of emotion tying players these days.

@taniwharugby there’s been a ton of damage made by Blues management over the years and thats primarily why players don’t come to the Blues ,there’s a perception that the whole organisation is damaged goods that continues to make poor decisions on and off the field.
Players want to further aspirations, to win a title and hopefully make the All Blacks.
they don’t work with union partners and boy don’t get me started with Andy Dalton who managed Auckland and the Blues at the same time...because that really worked well..
As for Redman and his cronies, if they had any decency ,they would be calling a press conference this morning and resigningFeel incredibly sorry for Leon McDonald,
They have been in positions to win so many games this year, but the cold sharp reality of it all as a collective on the field they are not smart enough or mentally tough enough..
It’s amusing to think during Kirwin’s era they made such a big deal about having a permanent training base and how that would be the real turnaround once they moved into the Alexandra Park facility.
So much for that move.Poor old Tana Umaga, looks a forlorn figure on the touch line these days, hope wherever he ends up he lands on his feet.

Blues atm are a laughing stock Wonderful ability to lose games they could have won this season: Reds Hurricanes Crusaders Jaguares Bulls
If they win just 2 of these matches they're a Top 8 side
Watching them was so frustrating So many mediocre players making dumb errors #13 rushing out of the line missing tackle allowing for 1st Reds try Scrafton coming in at the side to give a pen away in last 10 years I could go on
Blues & Highlanders are likely to struggle next year and be amongst worst sides in Super Rugby
-
@Jaguares4real and they deserved to be laughed at, there’s no point hiding from the fact individuals at some point during many of the Blues games make the dumbest of errors...
You could collectively go through each individual player and find an error..
Ofa is an impressive scrummager when he gets his hit right..we saw that against the Bulls last week, missed the first 3 hits before he finally got it right in the 4th scrum.
He got beaten again on the hit on a real important scrum on the Reds own 22..2 piggy back penalties later the Reds are over for the winning try..
But you know what, it’s just a series of moments on the back of many others ,because at 21-5 up it should never have been in a situation where they were chasing the game with a minute to go.. -

Feel incredibly sorry for Leon McDonald,
I don’t .... Leon walked away from Ta$man/crusaders for this job. If he’d stayed put he’d be next in line after razor for the head coach role.
He knew what he was getting into.

@Bones this is hilarious. I mention that the Blues haven't turned a corner and you throw your toys. It's pretty obvious that they haven't mate so suck it up. Maybe the Canes haven't won titles but we are consistently in the playoffs which suggests we are a pretty solid outfit, not our fault that the Crusaders have a stacked All Blacks pack that rolls just about everybody weekly.

Just to get this on record - you think we're the same quality as last year? Because I don't, I think we're getting better. There are phases that we just dominate, and we're starting to string them together. From where we were, where we just rolled over in game after game and the players didn't seem to care, I think we have moved forward.
Despite being shite, there are two games that we have kicks to win the game, and a third where we've got the ball and chance to force a penaly to win (last night). Even with what looks like a whole lot of squad players playing last night, we're better.
It's like Auckland last year. They lads seem to be trying their uts out and not giving up. I'll go and support that, even if we have brain farts, horrific weaknesses around the park, and an organisation that's slowly turning around. In particular, when we play pick and go, our forward pack looks damn good and hard to defend against.
I'm late to the thread as I only watched the game this morning. We're not good enough to win when we can't adjust to the ref - and we didn't last night. ALso, the Pulu try being ruled out -- I have no issue with that in principle, but the frustration is so many players just stand up and run on after going down. All yo uwant is consistency - not one rule in open play, and another when you score a try. Frustrating. Not helped by the lineout from that penalty being totally not straight, and then players crawling (another pet peeve of mine) in the next two phases. All I want is consistency, and I don't get that in modern rugby. It's really annoying.

The fact it's debatable after the advances made by large parts of this squad with Auckland Mitre 10 Cup is troubling.

Eh, very different level. If you looked at players who are going pretty well this season, a lot haven't spent time in the Blues environment. For me, the decent players from the year have been:
Nanai
Robinson
Faiane
Plummer
Pat T
Ofa
Karl (when on park)
Ma'a
Rieko (consistent, but not often spectacular)
Dalton + Blake (injuries)so 6/10 new-ish to the franchise. Here's hoping a good off season ,and more time with Leon will help
-
@nzzp We're definitely an eyesore a lot of the times, but we're definitely better than last season.
Our biggest losses have been 26 - 7, 24 - 12 and 20 - 10(every other loss has been single digit). Only one team has been able to put 30 on us this season. Far better than last year. We stay in the fight, we're just very unpolished.

Its going to be very interesting how and who McDonald recruits for next year some holes to fill and I think that recruitment will be key to more success next season.Do it wrong and another year like the last few.Totally agree about rotation you need a strong squad to win SR hence Recruitment a key for next season.
