Has there ever been two centuries in the losing innings and none in the winning one? You normally feel a bit hard done by when someone gets a ton and you lose, so how must England feel after getting two and still failing to chase down the total.
Yep but on the other hand 130ish from the other 8 guys is piss poor.
-
Oh yeah, Pakistan bringing a bit of spice early on in the comp. Far out, you'd be gutted as @Cyclops says in having two centuries but still losing. But @Crucial is on the nose with the average contribution from the rest. Particularly as it was close.
I wonder who Sri Lanka will knock over out of the top 4-5?? hmmm my money is on Australia

I guess that's after they lose to Afghanistan...

@Paekakboyz the Afghans played better against the Oz than SL played against us. Their best bowler is a spinner. I reckon they have a massive chance

HaHa well done Pakistan for throwing a spanner into the works, there are going to be no easy games in this tournament
it's awesome. I love this format too - there's so much opportunity to succeed or fail, and washouts shouldn't hvae a massive effect on the outcome. If you're good enough, you'll win enough games. I like it.
-
Amazing result even for a team as unpredictable as Pakistan inevitably are. They got spanked by the Windies yet in the same vein I can see WI wilting meekly to whoever they play next if their big guns don't fire to throw further spanners in the works.
England losing is pretty massive yet there's still a few games to come back and finish top if that's the way things are gonna roll.
You're right @NTA no pools makes everything so much more interesting. No coincidence that my favourite cup to look back on was 92. Only gripe is 12 teams could have been even more fun, Zimbabwe and Ireland would round things out nicely.

Yeah, Root and Buttler will be fuming after that. Wonder if anyone else managed to look them in the eye in the dressing room post match.
Fuming? no way! a hundred in a losing effort is the holy grail!

Makes for a better story at the pub years after the playing days are over.

This looks like it could be a remarkable tournament. We've had some good cricket and remarkable results already, and it's still only very early days.

Our game is the one that has "gone to plan" the best so far. Let's be honest we've had the wool on SL for years now and it was only the conditions that were gonna possibly be a factor. A wicket second ball though and I knew we had this one in the bag pretty easy.

Woke up at some ungodly hour and flicked the TV on to see how Pakistan was going - and of course had to watch to the end.
England discovers that they're not invincible. Wonder whether this will affect their confidence.
You don't really want to be chasing a big score against those Pakistan bowlers.
-
Oh man that is tasty! That will definitely put some self-doubt into the perennial underachievers at CWCs. Loads of pressure on them now!
Pakistan are weak in the batting but as always pretty strong in the bowling. I'd prefer to bat first against them and then put their batting under pressure; having their bowlers performing at the back end of the game suits them.
England look like a "we'll out score whatever they get" type of team, their batting is insanely dangerous but chasing down 350 odd is never easy even in today's age of the batsmen.
If we can get the win done against the Bangles and then take care of Afghanistan as expected that will take a heap of pressure off us, and we can really throw caution to the wind against the top teams with plenty of confidence.
-
@No-Quarter Yeah - for a team that's underdone, we've got quite a helpful draw with three of the easier teams at the start and the chance to get some momentum.
But my cynicism (and possibly tinfoil hat) suggests to me that someone did some analysis of British weather patterns and found it was much more likely to rain at the start of June than later in the tournament - hence why New Zealand got three easy games scheduled at the start and India hasn't yet played!

South Africa weren't playing?
