Good luck to everyone doing this...it's not easy but it's not that difficult either. I lost 40kg in about 6 months a couple of years ago, <cartman> so follow your dreams, you can acheive them....I'm living proof...BEEFCAKE!!!</cartman>

Here's the best site I've seen on the net for weight and fitness information - it's absolute gold:
http://www.exrx.net

Also, for those who want to obsess over kilojoules and grams of fat, the US FDA Food database:
http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/

That is US based so it's hard to find the right foods sometimes but they have hundreds of thousands of samples. The dietclub in Australia lets you search their database for free too:
http://www.dietclub.com.au/

I found that obsessing over it was basically the only way to succeed - I made losing weight my job. For about 2 years I recorded everything that I ate, all exercise etc on a spreadsheet and calculated how much weight I should have lost as I was doing it. It worked - after 6 months I should have lost X, and I had. 7000kj a day seemed about the sweet spot for me, but I was doing a LOT of exercise.

Speaking of which, by far the most effective and easiest exercise for losing weight is bodysurfing. I didn't realise how much difference that made until I moved away from the beach <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Here is a list of activities and their respective energy consumption:
http://www.nutristrategy.com/activitylist.htm

And finally, here's some info that will shed some light on how to do weight training effectively:
http://www.hardgainer.com/

I acheived much more with weights once I made an effort to work out less often....

Cheers

    well done tomoko.

agree about that weights thing - less is more!

but also got results from the Bulgarian programme, which is hard out - but only 4 days on, then 3 days off the version I had. So, penty of rest really too, but the workouts were intense!

    Good stuff.

Two of MvJ's favourites:
OK, sure there's some crap here, but it's about finding little nuggets in the dross. I liked those step-up exercises Merv Hughes was doing; they absolutely exhausted me, so they must do some good.

Australian Institute for Sport Recipes

Some of the recipes on the website are damn good.

The blurb says: The AIS Department of Sports Nutrition and Nestlé are committed to providing AIS athletes and other active people with nutritious, tasty recipes that can be prepared by anyone with a busy lifestyle.Â

I think so - my weight actually goes up/down by10kg or so during most years, but the main thing is I now know how to lose it whenever I want. Once your body learns a base level of fitness and leanness, it's much easier to get back there than it was the first time...

I am going to sticky this for a bit, first because I can <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> and secondly because there must be more links people can contribute.

If not then I will unsticky it.
There is a great Healthy Habits for Life tipsheet for free download at the Sesame Street Workshop website: http://www.sesameworkshop.org/healthyhabits/

It contains such brilliant tips as "Hop to the car, subway or bus." MvJ likes this, and is going to try hopping into the Supreme Court tomorrow morning.

Given the drinking habits of your average judge, people may mistake MvJ for a Supreme Court Justice <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
