Earlier in the year chiefs pivot Tiaan Falcon was ruled out with a torn Achilles injury suffered in Chiefs preseason while Will Tremain requires 6 months rehabilitation after requiring shoulder surgery. -

About Elijah Martin and Michael Allardice's injury:
"The selection hasn't really sunk in yet. I've only just finished signing the contract," Martin said before the Magpies trained yesterday afternoon. "It's not a fulltime contract. It's one of those week-by-week ones where I can get called in at any time. It's another stepping stone and while Michael [Chiefs lock Allardice] has still got a few more weeks until he is ready I'll be training fulltime," Martin explained."Auckland had 12 Super players in their starting XV. They were the most powerful and physical team I have played against. They were up another level but it was awesome to play against them." While Martin said he is the fittest he has been at 1.92m tall and just over 100kg he is smaller than most locks so he has to work on his physicality. "I'm happy with my mobility. But I just have to work on carrying hard and cleaning out hard. I just have to keep ticking those boxes and wait for the call if the opportunity comes." A Napier Boys' High School old boy, Martin, captained the Hawke's Bay under-16s to Hurricanes region title glory in 2010 before going on to represent the Bay at under-18, 20 and Saracens levels.About the selection of many club rugby players:
A feature of the squad is the number of players who have earned themselves selection on the back of solid performances in club rugby. "This year's squad includes representatives across all 10 premier clubs while all but one [Walker-Leawere] have played club rugby in Hawke's Bay either this year or previously. Just as important as the on field action is the SilverFern Tipping Competition. At this stage we look to have four certainties (Stargazer, Higgins, Stockcar86 and PAJ) committed with Number10 and Propsicle still to be confirmed so calling on any others willing to play their part defending our honour then you are encouraged to give it some serious consideration. Propsicle was a poach from the Wai-Bush Team a few years back and I'm sure can be persuaded to return to their fold if we have a full compliment of six for the Bay

I tried one year but am about as reliable as child of sonny bill and crotty trying to finish an entire game. I will likely miss more weeks then i complete.

Me too - so always sit out rather then disappoint during.
I can’t find the game in the Fox guides, do you know if they’re playing it or are they being retards again and only playing some games?

About Geoff Cridge
With eight tackles and an average gain of 2.50m from his eight carries Cridge had his best game of the season. It was his first outing in the No 6 jersey this season after playing lock in his previous two outings. "I like the six role more than the locking job but I don't get seen as a six or eight," Cridge said.Cridge signed a three-year contract with the Hurricanes in 2015 but knee and shoulder injuries in recent seasons resulted in him making just one appearance in 2016. This season he didn't progess beyond the Hurricanes Development side and he doesn't expect to receive a Canes contract for next season. "I'll be back building at the end of this season. I'm close to becoming fully qualified and there is more to life than footy," Cridge explained. However when it was put to him he could receive another Super offer if he continued Thursday night's form Cridge said he would definitely consider it..

@Stargazer I'm surprised by the fact he has already been locked in by the Canes. Surely history suggests he is too much of an injury risk to warrant a contract.

@Canes4life They did the same with Peter Umaga-Jensen, who has been more injured than not the past few years.

I thought the article said he's not locked in? His three year contract is up ... shouldn't a one year contract be fine? Conrad Smith would have had a short Canes career if his injury record was held against him early on.
Didn't Proctor get a five year contract?

Oh my bad - although I didn't know Lowe had another contract, maybe it's part of the Ben May deal, 'we'll keep a minimum of three Magpies in the Canes squad as long as you keep playing Ben May in the NPC so we don't have to.' :face_with_stuck-out_tongue:

@Nepia Haha, yeah, Lowe re-signed for one year in May.
By the way, I saw a post on Ben May's instagram last week and - although he didn't say it literally - he didn't seem too impressed with being named on the bench again for the game against Otago.
Next year, we have at least Evans, Toala, Lowe, May (and as yet unconfirmed by the Canes) Flanders in the Canes squad. As the ratio seems to be that never more than 3 Magpies get regular game time, Lowe may not get many minutes anyway, regardless of NPC and preseason performance or injuries.
