@rotated yep agreed. Read has had 2 very good campaigns for 2 wins. Dayglow was instrumental in 2003. Zinny a more talented player than both, but on World Cups only that misses the mark.
For me Finegan in 99 is a good shout for the 6 jersey. But again, Kaino was bloody good in two cup wins...
Kaino should walk this, best player in the world in 2011 and still one of the top ABs in 2015.
Most predictable post ever

So, i've just realised the final is the same day as Derby Day. After a full day at Flemington i am not sure i am even going to be able to see a TV at 8pm
You don't like rugby anyway so what's the problem?

Isn't Derby Day the one where you have to wear black and white? Hopefully it's fitting colours for the evening!

This is a beautiful rugby story: https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-news/rugby-world-cup-2019-wales-13899926
How many of us have strolled into a rugby club in some distant land with nought in our pockets and no plans but to pick up a game or two only to get absorbed into the fabric of a club?
As a 15 year old Morne du Plessis dropped by to visit my coach Springbok wing Andy van der Watt. Our whole team went round to Andy’s house to have a beer with the great man who would shortly go on to manage the 95 winning team. And the two of them made us all promise to keep playing after we left school because of what rugby would do for us.
One or two of us took their wise advice to heart. I never played any higher than club first grade, but rugby has left me with close friends in SA, Botswana, across Canada, Wales, the UK and Hong Kong to say nothing of all the lunatic Kiwis, aussies, Welshmen, Frenchmen, Uruguayan, PAcific Islanders and yanks who like me were wandering through the rugby world.
One of the great joys of the RWC is randomly bumping into former clubmates and opponents.

I hadn't thought about this before. Not only spots in the Quarter-Finals are at stake.
For those that won't make it past the pool stages, automatic qualification for the 2023 RWC is on the line. Getting that third spot in the pools is important.
pardon my repeated ignorance, but do the top 3 in each pool automatically qualify for the next tournament?
-
@mariner4life Yup, specificially mentioned by a lot of the minnow teams as their goal for this RWC

that is, quite frankly, ridiculous
Cut the number of automatic qualifiers right down, say finalists and the host. Make everyone else qualify, and bang, there is your little team v big team games between cups.
Never happen though, because the big unions are too entrenched in their current set ups. And the Clubs won't allow it.
-
Just no. The 3rd place incentive massively improved the pool stages.

You’re excused.
Take Fiji vs Georgia kicking off shortly. Game has more meaning as both can realistically get 3rd spot and automatic qualification. It was a great move by what was the IRB.

firstly, it's kind of patronising to think that these nations wouldn't both go flat out to win anyway
Also, Georgia are not out of the running for a Qtr Final spot. So they have a heap to play for.

We agree to disagree. The 3rd place incentive was an inspired move.
