Interesting CricInfo commentary conversation about conversion rates:
Junaid Anwar: "Does dickwella hold some sort of record for not having a test century for a proper batsman after 50 tests." Yes. Off the top of my head, I believe he's second on the list after Shane Warne.
Craig : "With the greatest of respect to the great man, I'm not sure that "second on the list after Shane Warne" is a comparison showing Dickwella is "a proper batsman" :)" It's a very specific list, to be fair.
Abhijeet: "We can't complain about Shane Warne not having a century though. As I remember, he did grab a few wickets as a bowler." Yeah, he was alright.
Dickwella: 50 Tests, high score of 96 so far. Currently 42* with a batting average of 33.05 and twenty Test match 50's.

Is that in terms of runs scored without a century ? I remember Warne got 99 against us. Other spinners like Kumble and Harbhajan played long enough to get three test tons between them too. Stuart Broad would probably have the record if not for one big ton against Pakistan.
-
This is a fantastic chase by England and they have a real chance to get the remaining 119 of that 378 today.
That Lees has a touch of Matthew Hayden about him.
-
Root has his 28th ton, Bairstow in the 90s. 3 wickets down and only 60 to get. Fantastic play by these two with Root looking sublime this morning.
-
And in the end, they’ve pissed it. 7 wicket win before lunch. Tons for Root and Bairstow. Chased down 378 at close to five an over. Brilliant stuff.
-
Hard to deny the impact of Baz now, that's another incredible win for England who for the 20 odd tests before Baz took over would roll over after getting behind the game. They seem to have some serious self belief now, and attacking players like Bairstow are really benefiting from that and winning them games they were well behind on. I thought India would piss it home after the first innings lead they had, but they ended up getting hammered.
-
@Catogrande when Pant went out, I knew India would’ve been well short with how England were batting.
The openers then the middle order just getting it done and at a rate of knots. Will be interesting to see what they do away from home.
-
Mate, I’m just enjoying the here and now. Overseas can bugger off and wait its turn.

@No-Quarter Baz and Stokes masterminding the turnaround in English cricket.
Cam Norrie storming into the Wimbledon semi-finals.
Must be free beer for all NZers in England this week!!!

…..and isn’t it remarkable.
Bairstowe has turned a bigger corner than any other player I can remember. How good is he playing ?

Three years without a test hundred (and only a small handful of small 50s in that period) - and now he has six this year.
True he has had some lean times but that doesn’t quite tell the whole story. Bairstow has been in and out of the side for the last few years. Up and down the order, sometimes keeping but often not.
Not all down to the new set up either, although his form this summer certainly supports the new paradigm. Under the previous coaching set up he was still second highest run scorer in both Aus and WIs with averages in both series of around 48. Second highest England run scorer in Aus despite playing only 2 tests.

Apparently we're playing Sri Lanka again.
Labuschagne and Smith with tons. Australia 295 runs with 5 down approaching stumps on Day 1. Fairly successful outing so far.
Smith nudges past Mark Waugh on the list of top Australian run scorers and averages about 18 more than one of my personal favourite players.
Pretty damn freaky. What a career he’s had.

Remarkable for a middle order leggie to achieve what he has

Indeed. Say what you want about the cheating, he didn’t cheat his way to over 8000 runs at 60. You can’t deny Root is the best batsman in the world at the moment but Smiths overall record is otherworldly. Just extraordinary stuff.
In the meantime Virat Kohlis form has fallen off a cliff which is winding up the fuck you bloody brigade something beautiful.
