Sitting relaxing and watching with my oldest son, I was about his age when I got info cricket in a big way and this current BC team has enough heroes to get him excited if I teach him right.
He's taken a particular liking to Wagner cos he bowls fast and is left handed like Dad.
You don't think Shayne O'Connor or Murphy Su'a would have had the same appeal back in the day?

Luckily for me Paddles was at his peak when I started watching seriously.

Should give Patel a go against Matthews now - get him stretching that hamstring!
Kane needs to bowl more, I understand his gunshyness with the whole chucking thing but without Guppy there really isn't an effective out of the box option.

Barring a catastrophic loss of form he will retire our best batsman ever. He's also a reasonably ok spinner. Who cares if he's called for chucking every now and again? Surely he realises he's carrying the team as much as Paddles in his pomp?

Today again highlighted the limitations of the NZ attack. Without overhead conditions against a team with composure and we are limited to whatever Wagner can squeeze out.
The de Grandhomme and Patel slots simply need to bowl more direct and produce more wickets even if more expensive. At home it is worth thinking of punting the spinner at this point I reckon if you have a guy like Henry carrying the drinks.

I have absolutely no concern about it, his action is remediated and was used effectively in county cricket with no issues. We need a second spinner and Kane was a very effective tweaker earlier in his career - on a day like today I would have been surprised if he (or a guy like Guppy) farted out some wickets.

Yep, kinda a reverse Southee with his batting, a guy who has a bit of talent to safe our ass on occasion.

Yeah - although I'd like to see Lochie Ferguson in the mix as well. Boult, Southee, Wagner and Ferguson covers plenty of bases - especially if Kane is willing to bowl himself - or bring Santner in for de Grandhomme.

He's basically crickets version of Charlie Ngatai now....
-
@MN5 Santner will be back - sooner rather than later. He's only not playing because he got injured.
Ajaz hasn't yet got a wicket in this series, so having Mitch - who can hold a bat - as your spinner, is a winning proposition - especially when it lets you bolster the seam attack!

But Ajaz did better in one test than Santner has in all if his.
He's talked up to ridiculous levels for someone without a century or a Michelle ( considering he's talked about above as taking over from CDGH who just got a decent rapid score....)

An innings made against a very tired attack, during the best batting pitch conditions and with no scoreboard or time pressure. Mitch marsh would have scored runs in those conditions. Not convinced that CDG is the answer at 6. I want to see some application in adverse circumstances or conditions.

Well no absolutely not but can someone remind me what Mitch Santner has done at test level?
-
Santner should not be automatically in the test team. He is a little better with the bat and a a little better with the ball than MMarsh (but only a little).
The thing about CDG is that we actually need a 4th seamer to bowl serious overs, especially at home. CDG is a much better batsman than Santner so if they both play CDG should be ahead of him. Since we don't tend to use the spinner at home, Santner is the type of player we would like to have but he just isn't good enough at the moment.
