i don't know why these idiots keep getting in the ring with Gallen. He can actually fight, he gets better every fight, and these novices get in and get their clock cleaned. Does it pay them that well?

He took it to Gallen very early on in the fight though. Definitely not a novice.

@mikethesnow I take it you're talking about the Taylor v Catterall farce? Couldn't believe what I was seeing after Taylor got the nod and felt awful for Catterall afterwards. Bob Arum paying off the judges.

All this talk makes me want to look back on when the sport was awesome.
How the fuck Holmes a) got up from this ( one of the most amazing one punch knock downs I’ve ever seen ) and b) WON the fight by KO is anyone’s guess !!!!
Fuck he was a hell of a fighter.

I love shit like this……how do I read parts two and three ?
I notice Tyson managed to avoid Cleveland Williams ( which I think would have gone either way ) and Sonny Liston ( who I’m 100% positive would destroy Tyson ) in this mythical march to the title……
For what it’s worth and from what I’ve read I think Foreman, Frazier, Ali and a very young Larry Holmes would beat Tyson ( forget the fact they actually did fight, Holmes was washed up, fat, untrained and old by then )
Others like Ken Norton, Earnie Shavers and Ron Lyle would fancy their chances as well. I can’t wait til @raznomore sees this thread.

Yeah hard to argue with much of that to be honest ( remember by 1972 Cleveland Williams had been shot by the cops yet still came back as a fighter, even stepping in the ring was an achievement by that stage )
My heart says Norton would be a bigger challenge but then he was vulnerable to big punchers which Tyson certainly was.
Loads of people who fought him say that Shavers was the biggest puncher but he had weaknesses as a fighter too.
To me no sport is full of “what if’s?” From other eras like boxing is.

Despite the mythical unbeaten record what this hasn’t conveyed is the sheer terror Tyson brought to the opening bell.
Very capable fighters were done before Tyson threw the first punch, and when he did start unloading they didn’t last that long after.
There was no warming in to the fight.
It was on like Donkey Kong from the get go.
And for a considerable portion of Tyson’s real career most of his opponents were afraid of the Bogeyman.
Until they weren’t, courtesy of Buster Douglas.
Connor McGregor has gone through the same arc.

Tyson pre-1989 was a different fighter. That said, I would love to have seen him against 'Foreman, Frazier, Ali' as @MN5 said - the glory years of heavyweight boxing.

I say this as a huge fan of Tyson but Foreman and Liston ( especially ) were more fearsome. Tyson didn’t beat many, if any, big names before Buster Douglas ( a washed up Larry Holmes doesn’t count )
Liston has to be the most fascinating boxer ever in my opinion. No one knew the exact date he was born and no one knew the exact date he died. He had a seven foot reach, freakish strength and toughness and surprising speed and boxing skills.

What IF former heavyweight champions Sonny Liston and Mike Tyson faced each other on their best night? Imagine Liston and Tyson staring each other down seconds before the first round. Other than possibly former heavyweight champ George Foreman, Liston and Tyson were the masters at psyching out...

Thor has a massive left hand, quite surprising. Well done to Hall for getting up from that, even slimmed down both are still absolute monsters.
