Hmmm. The ABs have lost to SA, Aus, Eng, Fra, Wales (60+ years ago), and now Ireland (who have also beaten everybody else recently). Probably forgotten someone but It is still quite an impressive record. Lions, mixed teams, etc, excluded.
I just preferred to be able to count them on one hand (Cantabs still can). Hansen has to wear that.
No you haven't. During the 2003 Centenary of All Black rugby NZ hosted tests from the FIVE indivudual nations that had beaten us. Ireland have become number 6.

1999 is the only one I’d even begin to consider as a choke and even there it was more a case of the team being understimulated rather than overstimulated and freezing.
Oohhh. 2007 was THE choke for me. In terms of tournament favouritism. The others were at least understandable.
Sure 1999 was an in game choke (14 point up).
Understand the "favourites" bit but what constitutes a choke? Having better skills but failing due to a mental breakdown?
Was in the stands for both of those mentioned.
1999 - our only real choke I reckon. Really thought we had it at half time, mentally switched off against a talented opposition, who switched on.
2007 was just a fucking joke. It wasn't a choke. Wayne Barnes was either incompetent (and shouldn't have been there), or a cheat. -

My first real memories of watching the ABs and actually caring about the result was the 95 world cup. I remember being obsessed with Lomu and saving all of the newspaper articles about him, so have fond memories of that despite what happened in the final.
We are probably a similar age. Didn’t feel like NZ lost that World Cup - mostly because of Lomu.
In hindsight it’s worth remembering we had won the America’s Cup a month earlier and the WRC thing was bubbling. So we were feeling pretty chipper about ourselves as a sporting nation and weren’t even sure there would be 4th RWC so there wasn’t too much to be upset about. Fond memories...

Que? Man that stung losing that. So so so fucking close.
Especially when we'd lost the previous one and just had to show the world we were the best and 91 was a mere blip.

95 hurt Louis fucking Luyt saying the Springboks would have won in 87 and 91 I really wanted him to choke on his words.
He really was the ugly Afrikaaner. There was still a lot of that around from SA supporters so wanted a win to curb their bigoted boorish behaviour. and to smash it through their teeth for past injustices.
96 was REDEMPTION so got over 95 very quickly.
99 - had low expectations so wasn't overly disappointed. Did think Randell should have gone to the ref and said sort out the filth or I'm taking the biggest team in world rugby off the fieldand you will be forever remembered as the ref who lost control and ruined the world
cup03 we selected a shit team and then paid the penalty
07 total train wreck. Didn't get to enjoy Oz losing their QF. It was like hahahahahaha - oh fuck

I was at that game - it was like watching a train crash in slow motion with Barnes completely losing the plot and the AB's game management as dumb as I have seen. McCaw's captaincy was appalling that day.
The only plus side that day was meeting up with fellow ferner Parc de Prince (remember him?) for a beer before the game
On the plus side, that was probably the one game which transformed All Blacks thinking and led to wins in 2011 & 2015

@victor-meldrew The crazy thing about '07 was that the first half was maybe the best rugby I've ever seen played. The french weren't bad, but you were incredible. But the frogs stuck in it and the longer they did, the more the pressure built on the ABs and Barnes. But as @Snowy says, sometimes you have to beat the ref too (which is a lesson I wish the boks and my fellow fans would learn, particularly when we play you.) You could feel the crowd, the french and the ABs all thinking here we go again. So choke seems a fair assessment for that game.
What is wonderful for ABs fans is that the '15 final felt very, very similar. When Dusatoir scored, fans and even the frogs seemed to say to themselves: oh we're on this script again.
But McCaw and everyone's favourite fisherman refused to let 20 years of hurt weigh them down. I think it is easy to dismiss how much fortitude that showed.

I was there. Most tense rugby game I've ever seen bar none. The weight of expectation was huge, the feeling we were going to lose again was suffocating as the French came back. In the tight second half the crowd was noticeably quiet, the moment far too big for many to cheer. One of my mates hid up on the concourse because he couldn't bear to watch. To this day I have never watched the game on tv and probably never will

If he is keen to stop acting like a whiney bitch, and he wants to help the cause and be a team player, they should get him in. The rule that coaches must come from Super ranks is made to be broken isn't it?

Never hurts to ask, and makes sense from NZRU perspective, I think they would have preferred a succession-plan where the next AB head coach had served some sort of coaching capacity with the team rather than come in from “the cold.”
