Ma'a is far and away the best 12 the ABs have had.

He's come a long way since the days of getting on the piss and arrested on Courtney Place!

I think his finest years put him into that echelon but there were years of dross as well.

Have we seen more consistent 12's throughout their AB career, yes

yep, 4 years as good as anyone i have ever seen, including Horan. That's in a 12 year career though.

Who would you call most consistent?

    Horan for most consistent?

I'm kind of arguing against myself here as I think when Ma'a was at his best he has no equal as he was immense on attack, defence and distribution. But man o man were there some rusty years too

oh yea world wide it's Horan by the length of the straight. I thought we were talking NZ only.

He was frustrating early on as he would mix the sublime with the ridiculous. A little like DMac right now albeit very different mold of player. He took quite a while to iron out the bad parts of his game but when he did we were just left with the sublime for 4 years.

For consistency NZ only, Little? Mauger? But then they are not in realms of GOAT (NZ)

2015 was the perfect finale. Set that Ma in stone. No need to tempt fate and ruin that awesome legacy.

Ma had at least five awesome years in black, which is probably more than guys like Cullen, Lomu and Jones, all of whom are undisputed legends.

He and Snake would be right up with Horan and Little as GOAT combo

agreed, but saying shit like that in Qld can get you lynched. Horan, Little, and the Super 10 are held in very very high esteem around these here parts.

Indeed. Obviously I'm biased, but I always thought Little-Bunce bested those two head-to-head.

Little and Bunce were outstanding, I don't recall them being dominated by the QLD duo on a routine basis. The only thing missing off their resume was Bill

me too. It's testament to how good Little was that i thought Horan did fuck all against us.

You won't get that past a Queenslander though.

I must have seen Horan play live at least 20 times. Thought he was unquestionably GOAT. But that changed when I saw Nonu live for the first time in 2015. An utter farking beast with the ridiculous skillset to match. Horan may have had longevity, but Nonu at his absolute best was better.

Maugers career was only 6 years. Felt like it was longer and whilst he didn't have Nonus lows he certainly didn't come close to his highs.....

Absolutely and I would never dispute that, but he was the medium of consistency you could rely on, that you certainly couldn't get from Nonu in his first half AB career

Yeah fair call and he had more than enough outside backs to flick the ball onto for them to provide the brilliance.

Mauger was the quintessential cantablack. A very good player but not in the pantheon

Mauger was awesome in 2002 and 2003, looked like he’d be a great, then he hit a wall and essentially got surpassed by Lucky.

Not sure why Ma’a’s career at the top is being shortened - he was our top 12 from 2008 - 2015. BFA doesn’t get ranked down because he took a relatively long time to become BFA.
