Not sure where else to post this, but the silence about the All Blacks camps has been deafening, with NZR not giving any dates of when the camps take place at all.
However, Scott Barrett was interviewed yesterday, and he was asked what he did during his week off. He said he'd been back home to Taranaki to see the family. The reporter then asked whether he saw his Hurricanes broters as well, and he said he didn't, because they were in camp.
So there was a North Island camp last week. Still no clue about the others though.
Could that not be in the Hurricanes camp?

@Hooroo Don't know, but why would he call that "camp"? You'd think he would just say (training) with the Canes in that case? Whatever is the case, the silence from NZR about the camps is still really odd and annoying.
Out of curiosity, how come it is odd or annoying?
-
@Stargazer said in 2019 Rugby Championship:
@Hooroo Because they were open about it last year and they're being secretive about it this year. Just my opinion, maybe others are okay with knowing nothing.
In a WC year, I am happy with the AB staff keeping everything close to their chest.

Keeping their camp powder dry as well maybe?

@Stargazer probably bigger news than Nonu not being there, that the name AKIRA IOANE IS in there!
-
@taniwharugby Luke Whitelock, too.

but but but he touches people's heads!!! that's going to cost us in big games.
And selectors see that, you mark my words....
Pretty decent collection of players, only a bit of dross easily culled. Nailed on World Cup favourites.

looking at the list and the order, appears D-Mac is there as a 10.

No Papalii. Interesting.
He looks like the only 2018 full squad member who is missing?
A few of the Japan squad guys didn't make it either but that is no surprise.

He's been really inaccurate this season. If Gibson wasn't made of glass, I doubt he'd have had time on the field.
I'm not surprised Luke Whitelock is there, he's been a favourite third wheel for ever. But his form this season is nothing to get excited about.

fixed that. The very definition of a "solid" player. yawn
-
@taniwharugby Probably because there is no other candidate for a third first five-eighth spot.

But this season he isn't even that. The one thing going for him was supposed to be his dependency in defence.

If DMac is the third best five-eighth in New Zealand, our mystical depth has disappeared.
-
@antipodean Yes, we're very light on good "10s".
Edit: considering what happened during the 2011 RWC, I'd like Mitch Hunt and Josh Ioane to get more game time. Thinking that they capped Cameron ahead of them and might be tempted to call him up in case of injuries, gives me nightmares.
Don't think any of the others are even on a very distant radar, yet.
