England vs All Blacks

First thoughts before the fun of reading back through the match thread.
Well, that was squeaky bum time but you only have to be a point ahead to win the match. Also, we kicked a drop goal and that helped us win. Bahahaha.
Do the NH collectively have no idea how BBBR plays? The UK commentators consistently talked about how he's really good in the loose but how he was going so well in the set piece and tight. It was comical how he bitch slapped Itoje in the lineout though.
Underhill was getting big wraps for his defence, but I can't remember a player who goes off his feet as often as he does. If he gets to a ruck he basically takes himself out of the game.
For once this year Crotty had the impact when coming on that @Stargazer credits him with every match. Both him and SBW still look broken but he looks less broken (and like @mariner4life I'd prefer ALB coming on). Good to see Goodhue back and not looking like he's still crook.
Read's not in great form at the moment, time to bring in Whitelock ... hahaha, just kidding, even not in great form Read is still our best 8 and I'm confident he'll get back to near his best.
It was great how the AB'c came back close to half time, but man it took them ages to get going.
I nearly threw my coffee cup at the TV when England 'scored' at the end, but as NZR has the refs in our pocket I shouldn't have been worried.
Garces was not too random.
Why does WR allow a 9 to drag a ball out or a ruck yet still claim it to be in a ruck? It seems to be a NH trait but then even TJ started getting in on the act.

Good job someone's read the law book
Including Marius Jonkers
I blame Brendan Venter

not sure how Garces didnt see this though, stands out like a sore thumb.
It aint like he just got out of the blocks quick, he is just off side.
Pretty sure there were comments about how controversy may follow when Garces was appointed...

After reading the comments in English papers I really think that many (not all) English fans have not learnt anything and are getting caught in the 'mystique' of the ABs. this game again highlighted many of England's short comings against the ABs and other teams during the last 12 mnths. Unless they realise this they will not contest the WC.
- There bench is poor and Lineouts are wobbly at best.
- They need to play more than 20-30% good rugby to win games, this happened down in SA this year and consistently in other games.
- Rugby smarts and ability to have more than one game plan or play what is in front of you and not be robotic.
- The ABs contrary to belief do not win all games by 30 points! being happy that you got close or blaming ref then puffing out chest will not help you improve, they lost, figure out what as a team you could do different.
To me they, and EJ are in survival mode and unless he becomes less predictable and more bold nothing will change. The ABs win games but look back at the last 10-15 years in particular they learn to win no matter what and are always looking at themselves and what they can do better.
when I reflect on the game and don't see anything that England are doing differently then they have in the last 10 years.
Maybe i might be wring in 12 months but I can't see that team going through a knockout tournament and winning it, no matter who comes back for them. -

England robbed.
Shit decison. Reverse it and This forum tops porn hub for bandwidth.
Hollow victory for me, Twickenham felt confused
think you're on your own there, sure thumping them by 30 points would have been enjoyable.
But to not only inflict a 1 point loss but also the added heartache that they 'were robbed'.
Which clearly they werent. Its oj though, they only have 12 months to stew on this result.
Right team won, and it wasnt the team that scored all their points inside the first 25 mins..
-
@majorrage if it was us on the end of that, I'd be more pissed with the TMO injecting himself into the game, one part I dont agree with, not the off side call.
I thought they amended things so TMO could only rule on foul play without ref asking otherwise he is only allowed to call when asked by the ref, or was that just TRC?
-
Pissing down all match, England st home, down 15 nil, 16 unanswered points.
An offside decision that's close but as the pictures show, offside.
I'll take that win. Quite happily
No doubt the English scribes protesting the " inch offside" apply the same rationale for a jumping prop and deal of the century deciding the Lions series.
Swings and roundabouts
Smith passes to Savea properly and we had them fucked.
A decent win for sure, thanks ,Brodie

@taniwharugby This was a TMO referral by the ref to check whether the possible try scorer was onside or not.
-
@stargazer ah ok, I thought he had awarded it and then the TMO injected himself...I wasnt listening closely enough.
edit - just rewatched it, sounded like you hear Garces say 'you want me to check it?'
TBF you cant see Garces for a about 10 sec after and alot of crowd noise too, so could be either I guess.

so have to assume Ngani returned to NZ some time this week, be a big ask for him to turn around and get on another plane today/tomorrow?
He’ll have a week to recover. Maybe they could have Reiko cover next week if one of the three remaining midfielders go down. Ben Smith covers there too.
Then have Ngani cover for Italy?
Maori Jesus?

woah, judging by highlights glad I missed that one. 1st half wouldve sent me spacco. 2n half didnt sound much better
despite seeing bugger-all of the game if Hansen says SBW "just needs more game time to get up to speed" ONE more fucking time I am going grassy knoll. Like the All Black test match midfield is SBW's personal little Les Mills fucken get-fit exercise circuit.
If it wasn't beyond a joke before it is now. Based on that benchmark Julian Savea should still have the number 11 jersey while he regains confidence and speed.
Of course anyone who mentions this kind of logic on Stuff.co.nz gets shot down as one of SBWs "haterz", luckily the fern is a bit more high brow.
SBW got a 2 out of 10 from the Herald. Not even Zac Guildford scored that low.

My take, England unlucky , not because it was incorrect but because that stuff doesn’t always get pulled up ,
But a similar type situation awarded the lions a draw against the Allblacks last year in the third test ,
And they celebrated like they had won the World Cup ,
Can’t have it both ways .

Could be wrong though

In fact, the publicity over the Farrell non penalty last week may have swayed Garces to not want to be seen giving a home town decision for a second week in a row.

@booboo as I said, just rewatched it, sounded like Garces says 'you want me to check it' but given he is off camera and the crowd noise, he may well have initiated it...but he did just award it normally, didnt signal TMO straight off.

Ok.
Also wonder if he was asking yhe AR if he was asking for a check?

The Pom rolling maul.
Is there a law issue about players joining and the ball not being transferred to the back?
Just seemed strange that the ball was being held in the middle.
I doubt there's a way to enforce but I thought there was a law about the ball being in the back.
Probably not though... it's all too complicated ( for me)

Back from my corporate jolly to game...some thoughts having not seen any replays or TV. Long-ish post. (Skip to he last 2 paras for the incisive bit)
Twickenham a pain to get to...and into. Ticket entry barriers weren't working, RFU needs to get its act together - pretty crap really. The crowd was far more respectful to the opposition and the kickers. First time I'd been to Twickenham for a test in about 10 years, so credit to the RFU. Atmosphere was great.
Pom tactics and decision making were excellent in the first 30 minutes - crap after that. Thought Farrell had a poor game - zero variation in his game. Underhill was astonishingly good for England and was my MoM.
AB backline was poor until Crotty came on and he seemed to give a lot of solidity. Thought SBW was poor and you wonder how long he'll be in the team. England targeted DMac with the high ball but he did OK and as well as anyone else - he certainly doesn't lack guts, thats for sure. On attack he was probably the most dangerous AB back. Thought our kicking game (inc. DMac) was shite. We looked way more dangerous when keeping the ball in hand.
Retallick & Savea were immense. BBBR utterly owned the Pom lineout, ruck, maul and, well, the whole pitch. Ardie seemed to be everywhere.
Ben Kay and Ugo Monye hosted a post match analysis for the corporate clients which was excellent. No argument that Lawes was offside from them. We then had a Q&A with Itoje and Danny Care.
Itoje & Care seemed good blokes but I was surprised by the complacency in their attitude. They thought that as they had only lost by 1 point they had scored a famous victory. Astonishing attitude in many ways. Hope I never hear an AB talk like that.
All in all, a mistake-strewn game. But we dogged a win - which I sense Hansen will be happy with
