@no-quarter Yeah. Couldn't believe SA went for the 5 metre lineout twice when Itoje was in the bin. They already had the superior scrum against eight English forwards, they would have easily have had a pushover or a penalty try against seven.
Regardless of their failings for 79 or so minutes, they were robbed.
Nah, I wouldn't claim a robbery of a game. They were robbed of a chance though.
Gardner flat out bottled it.
I had to double check it wasn't Hometown Jackson out there. -
I buy an Australian rugby shirt if we lose to England kicking 4 penalties.
Nothing to fear imo.

Congrats England. Great game to watch.
So many tries. Not a box kick in sight. Lovely stuff altogether

Sth Africa should have put 20+ points on in the first half. Poor decision making and poor throwing by Marx blew 2-3 chances. Saffa cover defence was exposed by May and co. Thought the England bench did a good job and the Pom defence near the line was excellent.
Decision by Gardner on Farrell's tackle was strange to say the least, though not sure it would have made much difference as SA had blown it by then
All in all, can't work out who was more crappier - England or Sth Africa.
-
@stargazer have always believed he is one trick player, yes he is physical and good st breakdown but he is average in other areas, especially his lineouts which have always been an issue. Core role first.

That astonished me looking at the GIF. IF that isn't a penalty, I no longer have any idea how this game is played any more

@98blueandgold Yep, miles behind Taylor, who deserves a nomination more than Marx. I never understand why Taylor gets so little credit up North.
-
Surely the citing commissioner can look at that and issue and off field yellow?
We've seen softer hits with more arms and lower pick up yellow in super Rugby...
Just highlights the issues they have with that part of the game

What frustrates me is that you watch these teams play the ABs and they seem to lift and play more attacking and then watching this game and the Wales/Scotland game you get about 3 minutes of combined rugby! Please, please smash the English next week 🤞
-
Dire shit from both teams. Ref was a pussy. The only debate was if it was a yellow or a red. South Africa needs Faf, or any other non mediocre scrum half. Marx needs to be benched based on his display today

@nzzp yeah exactly, penalty all day, I thought Gardner was just trying to work out whether it was yellow or red. Guess that only applies to those wearing black...
Phil Kearns is busting out some Alanis Morrisette in his shower.
"It's a free ride, when you've already paid...".

Italy showed more endeavour with ball in hand in the first 20 minutes of their test than either of these teams.
Horrible test to watch, but pleased England won.

Anything to keep Comical Eddie in the job until RWC2019, perchance?

This. The whole game just appeared slow and mistake-strewn. Bugger-all snap.

Generally, England's defence in this game was excellent. They made 86% of their tackles and stopped South Africa for offloading at all in this game. Itoje made 15 tackles, Wilson 14 and Shields 11 tackles with no misses.
However, the 7 missed tackles by Henry Slade, the four missed tackles by Jonny May and Elliott Daly's low tackle rate will all have been noted by the ABs coaching team.
