Edit: Bond does get extra points for dismissing White and Symonds. Especially Symonds.
Bond's was the last over bowling first from memory so there was a bit of assistance with Aussie going the slog. Great achievement but none of the wickets would probably be on a Bondy highlight reel.
Morrison's bowled all three of his which for a long while was quite the achievement.
Boult takes the cake though with those scalps.
Morrison as a bowler overall doesn't compare to Bond or Boult let alone Hadlee but I always liked him and glad he got to nail one.

A really sparse crowd from what I saw. Pakistan dominates the T20s but NZ has them covered in the ODIs when we play eachother.
Ferguson was impressive and has a very good slower ball now. Hopefully de Grandhomme fires with the bat soon.
The disguised slower ball is such a good weapon at the top level. The nanosecond longer it takes to get to the batsman is enough to undo them on so many occasions.

Good result on a belter and Pakistan are playing good cricket at the moment.
If ever you get the chance, stop what you're doing whenever Kane bats and watch. Notwithstanding that monumental curse, the guy gets so much power from such little effort. Nothing a bowler does flumoxes him and he bats like no other in terms of working good balls and timing. He's marvellous to watch
Preaching to the choir I know but some facts need restating.
Oh and Rosscoe built his innings beautifully.
Next game's a cracker because Pakistan got outdone in their little cricket Mecca for the first time of late.

You could never fault the guy for effort and he did have to put extra in being a short arse for a 'quick'.
One of my favourites of that era and for that I excuse his method of making coin after he stopped playing. While we cringe at his OTT style of commentary/presentation millions of others love it and I assume he has done quite well on the earnings front -

Morrison had a shitload more Wagner/O'Brien in him than Hadlee/Bond. But I guess when you are up against Pakistan and Aussie in that era no use being the best first-change bowler in the world if the alternate new ball bowlers give up 70/0 after 12 overs... Boy, our early 90s bowling stocks were woeful.
You have to give it to him he seems to get booked to commentate every off-brand tournament in the world. Say what you want about his bombastic theatrics but at least he isn't Simon Doull. Enjoying Franklin this series, best new NZ commentator in some time.

Fair play to him - and I liked his effort as a bowler. We're not the target audience, and if he's carved out a niche then good on him. I still find his commentary irritating and short on insight, but then I'm posting on the internet in an anorak, and he's no doubt making it rain in dodgy clubs around the asian subcontinent.

'Irritating and short on insight' is perfect for IPL.

For the cricket tragics...
NZ win the toss and they'll bat first.
1 Jeet Raval, 2 Tom Latham, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 BJ Watling (wk), 6 Henry Nicholls, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Neil Wagner, 9 Ajaz Patel (debut), 10 Trent Boult, 11 Ish Sodhi

NZ win the toss and they'll bat first.
1 Jeet Raval, 2 Tom Latham, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 BJ Watling (wk), 6 Henry Nicholls, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Neil Wagner, 9 Ajaz Patel (debut), 10 Trent Boult, 11 Ish Sodhi
Weak tail. Wagner at 8?
Now that I've started the season on a negative let's get positive. That top 7 is possibly our best ever overall.

Southee dropped?

@bovidae said in Cricket - NZ vs Pakistan:
Southee was dropped. They were only going to play 2 pace bowlers and Boult and Wagner have been preferred. There is a suggestion that NZ will rotate their quicks during this series.
New boy Patel has ridiculously good FC stats.......for a NZ spin bowler.
That is encouraging.

Ish and Wagner can both bat respectably well for bowlers (without being all-rounders). Boult probably offers about as much with the bat as Southee these days. Surprised that he's listed ahead of Sodhi. I'd probably have Sodhi 8 Wagner 9 and Boult 11 with the proviso that I know nothing about Patel's batting ability.
