Am fine with Wilson starting given the situation. Rarely has a bad game for Newcastle and has some dog about him. Not a proper 8, but beggars cant be choosers. Tuilagi onto the wing obviously...
Lawes is a big loss Crucial. Has become quietly very important to this England pack. Just seen the back row has 10 caps between them (and a debutant on the bench) and the starting props have started a total of 4 internationals. Shields needs to show us why he's been fast tracked. Hasn't really shown anything over the summer or in his limited gametime for Wasps to justify him being there.
I doubt anyone will disagree on Shields. No one ever shed a tear when he didn't get selected for the ABs so I don't know why anyone would think he'd become world class by shifting.

I'm astonished Shields has been fast tracked into the England setup. It's not like England are short of his type of player. Must be difficult for other players to fathom.

Good guy, a tough man, close mates with Beauden Barrett. Won the fitness tests at the Hurricanes each year, made the most tackles in games and was a reasonable captain. A man in John Mitchell's own image so that might explain his selection. Probably a better player than Elliott Dixon.
But weak hands and not being great at lineout or as a ball-carrier meant he was behind Liam Squire, Shannon Frizell and Vaea Fifita in the AB Blindside pecking order. He would probably be on the AB bench this weekend instead of Gareth Evans if he had stuck with the NZRU.

All true, except swap the term 'weak' with 'tits for'.
I fail to see what relevance being mates with BB is. I'd say BB has some mates that haven't laced up since high school and whose rugby prowess is limited to drinking games.

Ledesma has named the Pumas' touring squad of 31 players, among whom 5 uncapped players. Of these 5, one has played for Argentina XV (their second team), Rodrigo Bruni. He was in last year's Pumas touring squad but didn't play. The other uncapped players, Santiago Carreras (utility back), Santiago Grondona (loose forward), Lucio Sordoni, Mayco Vivas (both props) played for the Pumitas at this year's WR U20 Championship. Pablo Matera has been named captain for the first time.

No Herrera which I assume means no European-based players.
Or Cordero who has being playing very well in the UK.

From article on Americas Rugby News website:
Argentine Head Coach Mario Ledesma has made wholesale changes for the end of year tour to Europe. He has named six uncapped players and has dumped a number of veterans. Regulars from the Daniel Hourcade years Ramiro Herrera, Santiago González Iglesias, Juan Manuel Leguizamón and Leonardo Senatore have all been dropped. The decision casts serious doubt over the playing futures for all of them for Argentina. Ledesma has opted not only to leave them at home but to also select six uncapped home based players. Rodrigo Bruni, Santiago Grondona, Santiago Carreras, Lucio Sordoni, Mayco Vivas and Joaquín Díaz Bonilla have all been selected on the 31-man roster.
Ledesma cut his roster from 38 to 31 for the tour. The seven players to miss out on playing in Europe are Ramiro Herrera, Santiago González Iglesias, Manuel Montero, Matías Osadczuk, Lucas Paulos, Juan Manuel Leguizamón, and Leonardo Senatore. Not among the 31 players are Europeans. Ledesma has exclusively selected players from Argentina. This includes the non-selection of Ramiro Herrera (Stade Français) who as the only European-based layer involved in the training camp in Buenos Aires. The requirements of the tour may yet see the status altered. Moreover Argentine players involved in the European leagues are to play again this weekend.

English sport is plagued by the "quick fix". The search for "the next Botham" - with every promising all rounder being selected and then dropped - went on for 20+ years FFS.
On the plus side, being able to say "any average kiwi Super 15 player would walk into the England team" is a fun way to put down some of the more boorish armchair England supporters supporters....
The real supporters, in the meantime, just despair. I feel for them.

Tuilagi gone. Ashton on the bench. Back to the future...
