So it's about now we start looking at our squad and think about who might get a contract next year.
Current contracted players?
Blues
Moulds
Goodhue
Tua
Pryor
Crusaders
GoodhueOthers who were contracted, in WTG or Dev teams this year:
Blues - Nock (think his contract ended this year) Ross Wright, Olsen, Hyland, Straker
Chiefs - Matich
Hurricanes - Douglas (off to Brumbies, unsure if coming back here)
Crusaders - Macilai (think his contract ended this season)
Rebels - DebreczeniThink that is everyone?
I think the top of most Northland fans list of who should be in super rugby next year:
Robinson, Matich, Ranger (possibly off to Sunwolves) GregoryThen there is Nock, playing some of his best footy this season, but if he does pick up a contract, it probably needs to not be at the Blues, then it is Kitto, probably the reason Nock has stepped up, reckon he'd go well at Super too.
Rinakama would do well as a squaddie, but having been capped for Fiji means he is unlikely to get a spot anywhere.

@bones did you skim over the 600 posts to see if I was correct?
-
@taniwharugby of course.
-
@bones of course you did skim them or of course I am right

@taniwharugby
Douglas is back for 1 more year. He's got a 2 year contract with Brumbies, 1st year WTG so he could come back to Taniwha. -

@taniwharugby This is a good resource for tracking signings for 2019:
There's been no statement on signing Josh Goodhue for 2019 onwards from the Blues.
Neither Pryor nor Tua are currently contracted by the Blues.
There was something on here about Moulds being contracted, but nothing has been made public yet.
-
@tim ah ok...I thought Tua had signed for 2 years, obviously not.
That shows Goodhue as not being contracted and Blues have lots of spots or I'm reading it wrong?

apparently Josh Goodhue has signed for 2 years with the Blues.

@taniwharugby yeah I have heard the same thing,Aucks won’t be happy..!

Why?
Goodhue is an obvious selection

@duluth my bad, must have misread the mood..
Although there are some in the Taniwha squad after the weekend who butchered any chance they had of picking contracts up especially with Umaga and Hanks on hand.. -

Personally I would have been pissed if we let Goodhue go somewhere else
Announced Locks:
Scrafton, Tuipulotu, Goodhue & Cowley-TuiotiPlus Tupou primarily as a loosie
There's room for another big lump at lock to back up Tuipolotu. I will be annoyed if that is Martin instead of Whetton..
-
@steven-harris begs the question though why are Hanks and Umaga still doing the scouting/recruiting...
-
@taniwharugby the commentators kept mentioning they were looking at Robinson
At SR level I think he would be a 6 who could cover lock at a pinch
Tupou is already signed
It's likely Olmstead is signedIs there room for all three?
Personally I think we should pick NZ qualified players ahead of foreigners. So hopefully Olmstead isn't signed
-
@duluth I know they were impressed with him in the dev side at the start of 2017 when he did his knee.
From what heard he wants to focus more on 6 anyway and with his engine he is the kind that could play 6 and move to lock later in the game.
-
@taniwharugby if I had to take a punt, they may have been looking at a head to head clash between Taukei’aho and Moulds..

@steven-harris possibly, although surely he (TR) has caught the eye up until getting injured (a few weeks back)
While I like Moulds and what he brings, what we have seen of Olsen this season has been great, I think he offers a bit more explosive power in close than Moulds, who suits the wider channels better.
-
@steven-harris Sure hope so. Now can we delist Apisai?
-
@steven-harris Not at all, I wish he didn't get injured last season as we would have been able to see a lot more of him during SR. Jimmy Tupou on the other hand.....
-
@steven-harris Despite the scoreline I think Moulds likely would've won that head to head battle. For once someone elses line out was worse than ours and Moulds played well despite most of the others sleep walking through the game
-
I wonder if Ross Wright will get picked up on a full contract or at all?
He would make a very good squad member given he can play both hooker and prop.
-
@taniwharugby He hasn't had much luck in his career - would have had a really good shot if he had played all season like last season! Hopefully he did enough for Northland/Blues/NZ Maori last year to get a go.
Interesting that Jack Debreczeni was tied with Sevu Reece and Luke Romano on 9 points on the top of the Duane Monkley medal table when the table stopped being public after round 7
-
@chiefy07 yeah I havent followed it as closely this year, although I dont think they have been as pro-active in putting up a table, only points from certain games....assume he has just been accumulating points slowly, he has been solid with a couple of good outings, but nothing spectacular IMO.

Just for my "list", do you have a source for that, or even better, a link?
There's nothing on the Blues' website or social media. -

I agree. I think he has been one of the better 10s in the comp but definitely hadn't picked him as one of the top 3 players in the comp after 7 rounds. IMO he has had a big impact on this Northland team - not sure we would be in top 4 with the 10s we had last season.
-
I think with (my Cambridge blue eyes) Moulds, Olsen, and Ross Wright we almost have 3 best hookers in Blues territory. Nowadays Wright might struggle with throws given he doesn’t play there but still they all are very good. Yes I include Parsons in my consideration.
But couldnt even begin to suggest that about any other position.
