Been really impressed with Samisoni Taukei’aho and Quinn Tupaea for Waikato.

Cooper better re-sign him for the Chiefs.

I've seen a lot of Tupaea at schoolboy level so he is doing well in his first year out of school. Playing out of position too as he is mainly a 2nd 5.

Connor Collins starting for Canterbury tonight. Great effort as he was playing Lincoln colts earlier in the year. Still only 20 years old too

Josh Goodhue seems to be on a good upward curve at the moment, starting to realise his potential.

@taniwharugby As long as he stays injury free. He would have seen plenty of gametime for the Blues this season if he didn't get injured.

@bovidae unless the news is talking crap, looks like they may have changed their wise minds

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/provincial/106815658/All-Blacks-selectors-looking-at-provincial-players-to-bolster-their-end-of-year-tour-ranks

Outside backs, loose forwards, halfback, lock, prop, hooker and midfield must all be among the spots where the selectors are eager to see guys stand out.

Classically crap journalism there. He's mentioned the entire fucking team aside from first five. Highly insightful.

I like the look of Tom Robinson, Samisoni Taukeiaho, Richard Judd, Melani Nanai, Junior Laloifi, Josh Mackay, Quentin Strange, so far - all pushing for consideration for Super starting spots perhaps.

Strange still has three AB locks to contend with at the Crusaders.

McKay I'd say yes. The Highlanders would be mad not to at least fit him into the 23.

Nanai has had 2-3 seasons to nail a Blues starting spot and hasn't been able to consistently. Either last year or 2016 he was called into an AB squad for training and/or as injury cover but hasn't reached those lofty heights since.

Nanai has been fucked around by Tana's obsession with Michael Collins' communication skills. Put that time Collins has had into developing Nanai and he would be a lot further along than he is now IMO. Still has some impressive skills though. Hopefully Leon can help him make the step up next season.

Well, in this ITM cup stocks thread, Patty T is 'up'. Called into the ABs on 60 minutes of footy - sure thing, no problem 🙂

@arhs Unless Junior Laloifi is AB eligible (I don't think he is), our Super teams shouldn't select him. Better to give that spot to a local lad.

    Junior Laloifi

According to Wiki he was born in Hastings. I've no knowledge if Wiki is correct or not.

Ah right! Then yep, I hope he doesn't get selected by a NZ Super team. It's not like we don't have good young backs of our own floating round.

Not sure whether he's Aussie captured though, considering he was under the age of twenty when he last played for Aussie 7s (if Wiki is correct, that was in 2013; he turned 20 in 2014).

It must be correct, because it's also mentioned in his Turbos profile, which also says he has NZ nationality.

@stargazer Thanks for that. Never knew that the eligibility rules only applied to players over the age of twenty. He should be ok then!

They apply to players over the age of twenty only since the most recent rule change in 2017? correct?

I would think if he played in for Aus 7s in 2013 then he is captured.

Although don't underestimate the ability of a big Tier 1 Nation to find a way to overturn an eligibility situation ....

    From: https://www.worldrugby.org/news/245382?lang=en

Sevens players will only be captured for the purposes of Regulation 8 where the player has represented either of (i) the senior national representative sevens team of a union where the player has reached the age of 20 on or before the date of participation; or (ii) the national representative sevens team of a union in the Olympic Games or Rugby World Cup Sevens, having reached the age of majority on or before the date of participation in such tournament (effective 1 July, 2017)

When they've changed the law to trap eligibility in the past they've done it retrospectively, it would be weird if they didn't when going the other way but it's WR so I guess it's a roll of the dice.

Also, I don't think NZ has had much luck overturning eligibility situations - we couldn't lock in Caucau and Sivi had to wait an extra three years before being AB eligible.
