What are we going to do with Harris? He's never impressed whenever he has come on off the bench and his lineout throwing is suspect. I would rather see Coltman get the bench spot until Coles becomes available.
Does anyone know what's the latest with Aumua? It's a shame he got injured this year, this RC would have been the perfect opportunity to develop him in the AB environment.

Mate, I disagree. I think an SBW/Goodhue midfield would be the shot. Goodhue looks to me to have nailed the 13 slot with his defence and decision making, and I reckon could look the business outside Dubya. Also, SBW at 12 opens up space for Barrett and inside runners -- see Test 1 Lions for a great example of this.
as an aside, anyone know where someone could get their hands on a video of test 1? Tests 2 and 3 are on youtube, but I'm blowed if I can find a copy of the first test match. Err... asking for a friend?

Agree. I flicked back and forth between that game and whatever was on the other sports channels, but couldn't sit through a full game. The Sevens girls were amazing on the GC - I was there and lost my shit as much as anyone; moreso than in the mens' final even - but watching the girls play fifteens is quite painful.

@hooroo I have heard that excuse plenty of times, when these tests were played at smaller stadiums at inconvenient times (e.g., on a Tueaday afternoon in a normal working week), as they used to be scheduled until quite recently (that example is from last year). But yeah, although I don't understand why people wouldn't want to watch a good rugby match, there are still people who don't want to watch women's rugby, even if it's a test of the 5 times World Champions.

@stargazer for me, when I took TR Jnr to the ABs a year or so back, cant recall what time we arrived but we saw the last 15 or so of the BF game...I am not sure I;d of wanted to be sitting at the stadium for another 90 minutes (after a 2 hour drive, and same home) prior for the BF game as well; as above, the 7s is awesome to watch, 15s on the other hand....
If the RWC games come up here, I will go along, even if the BF arent playing, only cos I support stuff that comes up here (I mean I watched a game of soccer there a few years ago, I hate soccer haha)

For the second week in a row the Black Ferns game will clash with a M10 Cup game. In this instance, it is the Waikato-North Harbour game, which I will be at. NZR and Sky should have kept that window open for the women's test.
I would certainly go to Eden Park early if I was attending.

@taniwharugby I remember going to watch a curtainraiser before an AB test at Eden Park in 2000. Over half of our group were from out of Auckland.
In case anyone it wondering the curtainraiser was the U21 final vs SA. A 71-5 win.

@taniwharugby I guess people who watch rugby like I do - watching 1st XV games, age grade games (U16 is borderline, but I'll watch U18 and up) - won't mind differences in pace, strength, skill between the different teams. Watching games without comparing, just enjoying what's offered at that particular level. Other people won't bother watching women's rugby because of prejudice (and have no clue or don't care about the progress made the last few years). And then there are a lot of people in-between.

I've coached women's XV, it is a hard watch, but with time their skills will improve. I do like the scrumhalf though, she's got an excellent pass for someone so diminutive.

To me you are what chilli competitors are to the culinary world. A very small minority, passionate, but far from the norm.

I couldn't agree more. NZR/Sky/ARU have missed an opportunity there. They could have scheduled three games on the Sunday.

@stargazer I watch alot of rugby too, not as much as you, but I'd say much more than average.
Outside of the ABs, Super, M10 I watch club footy, school boy footy and by default I watch U13 rugby due to coaching it.
@Bovidae I think the whole curtain rasier thing has changed though.
Pretty much all games had numerous games prior, but as we already know peoples viewing habits have changed dramatically over the past 10-20 years and has therefore affected how we look at attending these events.

@hooroo I'd say I cover the chilli and the culinary :smiling_face_with_open_mouth: . One of the things I find fascinating is exactly what @antipodean is referring to. The progress you see over time. Following players over the years. Both individual players from school or age grade, as well as categories of players (women's rugby as a whole).

I'm happy to watch various levels of rugby and accept that there will be a variance in skill, size, power etc, but with women's fifteens it's too big a decrease in all facets to make it a good watch. I mean by Crikey the Aussies didnt attempt goals because they didn't have a kicker and our kicking out of hand and for goal is probbaly equivalent to U13s.

How the fuck to the Wallabies approach this weekend? They turned up settled and well prepared, at home, and got flogged. They know we will get better after the weekend, but they have to come to NZ and play.
Both their set piece were in complete disarray
They have lost the outlet for most of their points over the past couple of years
Their attack rarely troubled our defensive system even when they dominated the first half an hour.What does Cheika and the senior players say in the early week meetings? You can't just erase years of mental demons that were once again brutally rammed home on Saturday.
Unlike last year, where they were caught on teh hop, and their system wasn't up to the early play by the ABs, this year their set up started very well, but they couldn't keep it up for a half, let alone 80 minutes. They put in effort, they just weren't good enough. That is so much harder to fix. Is their only hope for us to have another off day, but even worse?
