England team to face Italy
England: Daly; Watson, Slade, Farrell (capt), May; Ford, Youngs; M Vunipola, Cowan-Dickie, Sinckler, Itoje, Hill, Lawes, Curry, B Vunipola.
Replacements: George, Genge, Stuart, Ewels, Earl, Willis, Robson, Malins.
Lawrence paying the price for Farrell's poor game. Good to see LCD get a start at hooker following George's invisible display last week.
Yeah that was probably his only England game. Edited likes to do that, one test then dropped forever!
It's only Italy, and with ford at ten, many cracks will be papered over.

I really don't know what Jarrod Evans has to do to make the 23If both teams play liked last weekend, Scotland by a fair bit. But how often are they consistent? So it should be close

Haha not in Edinburgh, will be borderline freezing tho. If the backs see as much ball as England's they will die of hypothermia!
I did have one weekend, my first, in St Andrews where it got down to -16, and the harbour froze enough to bounce pebbles off. Mrs Mach said WTF are we doing living here!?

That walk to Murrayfield is like the Retreat from Stalingrad regardless of the time of the year.
Saw U2 in June and froze my balls off.

Am I reading that team tight that Lawes is 6?

@Machpants thanks Mac. Kind of my point. I'd have swapped Lawes & Itoje

Might be one of those numbers don't matter things, but really I think it is only Italy. They'll get smashed up front and then the backs can have a field day - as long as Ford does cut out passes beyond 'I only kick and shoulder charge' Farrell so people beyond number 10 actually get the ball. Big Scores! Exciting rugby!

Yeah <sigh>, this seems a bit reactionary to me. It is not a step forward. Also not a step backwards to a safety blanket that has proven to work consistently. Missed opportunity IMO.

@Machpants shows Murray had an even better game than I thought.
Not a good look for Lowe either.

Had time to cogitate
Wales by 4-7
-
Wow, Italy take a surprise early lead through former BOP Steamer Monty Ioane.
-
Great try
Thoroughly deservedWoken England up
-
Farrell with a penalty. 3-5
-
Well that was a big knock on by May. And then a double movement for the try.
The earlier penalty against the Italian tighthead was extremely harsh too, he wasn't the tackler.
-
8-5 to England after a Jonny Hill try.
-
Garbisi penalty 8-8 after 19 minutes at a cold and empty Twickenham.
-
That's a really interesting tactic from the Italian coach, I like it.
Starts his "weaker" props and subs them at 30 minutes. The idea being that the top props get a ten minute run around and then a good rest before coming out for the second half when they generally score more points.

Doesn't that make Tighthead Prop now only the second most opponent position on the team sheet? And reserve Tighthead Prop the most important?
-
Watson over for England. Kick good. 15-8

Very interesting
-
Awesome from May
-
Try given 20-8 to England at half time.
-
Watching with a 10 minute delay, but so far way better from Italy today. Pressuring the England midfield and competing well at the breakdown
England handling the kicking game much well and starting to find gaps it Italy's defence.
Some dumb mistakes from both sides though, Youngs not having a great game.
-
Jeez, Farrell seems to be making Jonny Sexton look likeable
-
After a controlled and patient start Wales have decided to play like schoolboys
Physicality has dropped off, Scottish centres having too much time and space, and Scotland have capitalised.
Scotland 17 - 3 Wales
26 mins -
Scotland looking much better than Wales. Hogg is the best back in the British Isles at the minute.
-
I don’t think Pivac grasps that back line play is about balance and players who complement each other.
Biggar is not the right 10 for Tompkins and Watkin
-
Best Scottish team for 30 years?
-
Halaholo on for Wales. Another ex-Hurricane turning out of one of the UK nations.
-
Rees-Zammett in for Wales. 17-8
