I actually thought England played well and controlled the game until they scored the goal and then got a bit of "what do we do now"
That was terrifying that shootout and I was very pessimistic.
Watched with a Venezuelan that was wearing an England shirt. When we got that final penalty he threw the worst double handed high five and palmed me straight in the nose and a finger in the eye. He didn't even know he had done it he was so ecstatic
We?

Hooroo is English. Like Brad Shields.

As a football match that was awful - hardly a chance created and both teams complaining to the ref like teenagers. England controlled the game but never really looked like scoring - Colombia without their best player struggled to create a thing until they switched to route 1.
Can England make the final? Yes but Sweden must be eyeing it up as well and that quarter-final looks like being another awful game - hope I'm wrong. Both sides are strong in the air so it could resemble a lower league game with plenty of long ball.
England look good when they are buzzing around doing everything fast but the skills of players such as Sterling aren't really up to it and once their zip went in the 2nd half, they didn't seem to have any other plan - except for players to fall over to try to win free kicks and penalties. (Colombia looked like they were playing for penalties from the start).
The 2 halves of this draw definitely look like the penthouse and the outhouse with the quality of the games so far.
Sterling is so overrated. He has little feel for the game and doesn't provide any assistance to Kane. If he's fit I would put Ali in there, he can coast through large periods of the game but for Spurs he and Kane combine well, and he has the knack of popping up in the right place at the right time or he can play a dangerous ball. Young played one of his better games, which isn't saying that much. He offers no pace or width on attack

I'm not actually a Chief but when I refer to them when they win I say 'We won'
England is the football team I support along with The Gunners.

Give the ref a fucking taser. Jaysus all that up in his grill business is a blight on the game. Light some fuckers up and throw in some cards.
For all it's a beautiful game football can be bloody hard to like.
Well done England!!
-
I've been saying that what is needed is a new card, extra card.
An orange card, or green.
Given to players who hold on or push too much.
Two cards gets 10 minutes off the field.
That would create more space for players to dribble more, which is really missing at the moment. And I would like to see the yellow card causing missing the next game weakened to needing 3 consecutive, since the players must be extremely disappointed to miss world cup games, it's a little unfair.

I agree. I thought that ref deserved a beer after.

So you were supporting Ospina in the penalty shootout.
Twice in one night I agreed with the ITV commentator saying "Tottenham v Arsenal". Apart from the bit of sick in my mouth, I was very pleased with the outcome

@rocky-rockbottom do Brazilian fans care about his antics though?

Brazilian isn't exactly synonymous with masculine is it?
-
@taniwharugby if the potential rest of the world audience thinks he's a douche then that'll definitely impact his sponsorship options. Unless he's ok with taking the piss out himself in a satirical marketing campaign.
-
@paekakboyz but apparently the demand of AB jersies in NZ is why we pay so much more than anywhere else in the world, so one assumes the same applies for the Brazilian kit...plus it is a shitload of exposure.
I dont agree with it, I hate the overacting which is why I barely watch any soccer at all, but I'd say it needs to be the officials that need to stamp it out, Sponsors are gonna do it, if Nike (or whoever his sponsors are) tell him to pull his head in or they'll ditch him, I expect he'd have a line of other sponsors ready to fill the gap, unfortunately!!
-
@taniwharugby I was thinking more of his personal sponsorship opportunities. Agree that his antics are unlikely to impact team kit sales... although if they did that'd be a pretty big deal
-
@paekakboyz still don't think it would hinder his own endorsements, it's Neymar the Brazilian star not Neymar the diving cheating faking prick 😎

Neymar earns €865,000 per week at PSG, excluding any endorsement deals. He's not starving either way.
He's a young flash fluffybunny with tats and fucked haircut with a ma-hoosive profile. Kids fucking love him. And the people who eat up soccer endorsements don't give a flying fuck about his antics. He's all good.
Massively over rated as a player though. No way he is worth what PSG are paying him.

Having never earned €865,000 per week, I'm not sure I'd waste my valuable downtime doing endorsements.
At best I'd take retainers not to shit on their products. Until I did, and then you could elect not to pay the next month's retainer.
