@hydro11 Sky dedicated a channel to Netball throughout the World Cup, plus there were regular segments on all the breakfast shows etc, it's certainly a sport on the rise in the public eye. Maybe they could have played it in the evening, but I doubt that was going to make a huge difference to viewing numbers in NZ and Aus - what time would you propose? Playing in the evening could well have turned people in the UK off too.
Why doesn't the final just start on Saturday night, giving a Sunday morning viewing time down here. No reason for it to be at five in the evening.

So play the final a handful of hours after the semi final?

They could probably think up something imaginative like having the semi final on a Friday and pushing every thing forward one day.

I suspect the UK-based tournament organisers were thinking about the spectators in Liverpool and hoping England would make the final.
5pm to 7pm on a Saturday/Sunday early evening seems to have become the prime spot for UK-based sports events. (Six Nations games, FA Cup Final, 2015 RWC Final, Wimbledon games with British seeds or Men's final, climax of World Cup Final Cricket) Early enough so kids can attend, but late enough that adults can go out for dinner or drinks afterwards.
In terms of the TV audience, after shops and supermarkets have calmed down, but doesn't interfere with the primetime TV schedules of dramas, soaps, talent shows or reality TV shows. People in the UK like watching sport with their supper.

why do they have to do it?
It'd be great if the Netballers got a wad of cash for thier efforts, but...
Clearly world cricket should stump up some prize money for netballers?

You missed the pushing every thing forward one day in my previous post. Not sure how...

Well as long as it suits NZ perfectly eh! Who really cares about the audience in the country where it's held? Friday night after work sounds like it's really easy to organise getting the kids picked up and settling off for the game in time.

This tournament had multiple games played during the day. Also it is the school holidays in the UK until near the end of August so I don't see what the issue is. I don't see why a night game wouldn't suit English audiences. If they made a decision to hold a World Championship's games at times suiting the host country, I would just comment that most international tournaments don't seem to do that. Most tournaments seem to consider what time would work best for most of their viewers.

The games when they were played seemed to suit pretty good, judging by the crowds. Have you got the viewing figures?

Nope. Agreed crowds were good.

I saw the shrill articles in NZH and Stuff ...
So the cricketers got more? How do we fix that? Easy! Get a country of One Point Three Billion people (that's 1.3 multiplied by 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10 x 10, or 1.3 with 9 decimal places added) to obsess over the game.
You can't make people like a sport because sexism.
Stupid people.

@booboo Here tis. Don't expect much, pretty poorly done for such an exciting game.
Jeez Mokes. They were crappy highlights.
Show me some D! Watson did some amazing stuff. Intercepts, tips. Stopping the bad guys scoring is just as important! (My daughter plays defence ... ).
And there were plenty of better feeds to the shooters too.

@canefan delighted for Noeline, she should have been given the job a very long time ago, it’s a great story of redemption and also such an amazing turn around..
I spent some time with her Whanau and partner at the time when they lived down in Rotorua ,I was commentating the NZ secondary schools waka ama sprints at the Blue Lakes.
Noeline was coaching the Waikato /Bay of Plenty Majic at the time, I was blown away at how much commuting she was doing..absolutely crazy .,I was incredibly impressed with her planning ,so I guess it’s no great surprise this story has a great ending..extremely proud..! -

The best thing about that shitty highlights package (which I assume a cat put together walking backwards and forwards in the editing booth) was the shot of Taurua smiling when the Ferns got a good goal. Was cool to see that from a coach.
