@african-monkey what position is Halls?
-
@kiwimurph Centre. He's a handful with a fair bit of toe to go with his massive frame.
-
@stargazer @African-Monkey cheers. Nice.

@nepia Yes, as the highest placed Super 8 team from the Hurricanes region, Napier will play the runner-up from the Wellington Premiership at home, and Hastings as the no. 2 will play the Premiership winners in Wellington. That Wellington Premiership Final will be played tomorrow. Hurricanes Top 4 semi-finals are next Saturday.

The problem is that the CNI extends from Paerata (Welsey) in the north to Masterton (Rathkeale) in the south. That's a lot of travelling. They might be better to have a north and south region (adding a few schools if required) where the top 2 teams from each region meet in cross-over semis and then a final. Fielding HS would dominate the south region but the north would be much more competitive.
I see that Wesley only joined in 2017, and St Johns Hamilton this year. St Paul's have been the strongest school over the whole competition.

@bovidae Isn't there a Chiefs equivalent of the Hurricanes Youth Council? HYC seems to be the organisation that coordinates all the inter-provincial rugby in the Canes region for players under the age of 20. Not the local or regional school competions, but U19s seeding competition, Hurricanes Top 4, rep rugby tournaments for U18s to younger age grades, also sevens. They also organise the Hurricanes age grade camps & special skills days for school girls, for example. Their website lists all the fixtures. It would be handy if there was such a thing in the other SR regions.

I don't know who administers and co-ordinates age-group rugby in the Chiefs region.
All I know is that I was given the fixture list for Hamilton BHS before the season and Aug 18 and 25 were scheduled for the Chiefs Top 4 qualifying games. Previously the top team from C-M, Waikato and BOP would play eachother to decide the Chiefs winner but that has changed with the addition of Taranaki.

A few more teams but only a few km more than Super 8 in distance really. A split would make sense but Feilding would dominate easily going by recent results.

Yeah, but the Super 8s are rugby teams with schools attached.
The CNI are schools which play some rugby.
Two days off school to play a game isn't something a good principal should be happy about.
