Yup, he has his issues with technique, but you can't doubt his mental fortitude. Not the first innings he's dug deep, and very important in the context of this test.

Kane absolutely superb though, and has shown you can play a solid test innings against the pink ball on day one. Great to see he and Boult stepping up big time against higher quality opposition. Could not ask for a better start to the series.

And I fucking love the day-night tests. Great concept, long may they continue.

Do you suppose when Kane won the toss and put England into bat he expected to reach stumps just 9 runs short of his 18th test ton..

These are bloody good times for a BC fan Virg. Four potential chances for KW or Rossco to claim the record outright.

Very satisfactory day of test cricket.

Essentially NZ get 4.5 days to play v Eng with two innings while the Poms get one only.

Bat till stumps tomorrow would be awesome.

As close as you'll ever get!

And necessary given there's a fair amount of rain in the forecast the next 4 days.

Not any more. Showers, and it'll be glorious. I'm bouncing around like before a proper All Blacks test match - can't wait to get down to the ground.

Still trying to get my head around a NZ Cricket test starting at 2pm. It's confusing for an old tradionalist like me.

@mn5 yeah as soon as we reached stumps I was wishing we could resume in the morning. But it was pretty cool to be watching local test cricket at 9pm. If we'd been getting shat on I may have felt differently tho!

Think will be rain on and off today and tomorrow pretty much washed out. Sunday and Monday much better

Jumped on the draw at $8.50 yesterday when England were 8 down. Will happily lose my money but also want something in return if the weather gods steal away a famous NZ victory

@jk at the ground now getting ribs. Windy but blue skies. Mildly warm. Plenty of play in store I hope.

There is rain around but hopefully stays away. Anyone know what happens to pink balls in the wet? That's a serious question by the way...

All going well it'll make our bowlers quicker than Brett Lee while spinning it more than Murali all at the same time.
