How did so promising a season fall over so far?
The Broncos are a very limited side, but i have zero confidence we will win this
NEVER DOUBTED THEM
Raiders of the last playoff place: The big overlying story for this game between 7th and 8th is the surging 9th place Raiders. They're still 4 points out of the playoffs but the pressure will be on the loser of this game which turns out is the Broncos. A big win for the Warriors. Hurrah!
The real MVP: All of the Warriors. Simon Mannering was leading the team down the middle in a dominant first half, Isaac Luke was causing trouble around the ruck area, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck ran over 200m and Solomone Kata had two tries. A big improvement over last week's shitter.
What about the other guys?: Remember when the Broncos were a lock each season for the top four? Those days are goneburger due to some poor recruiting decisions, like signing Anthony Milford and letting guys like Ash Taylor go.
#Refsstillshite: So Andrew McCullough punches Chris Satae three times after Satae fends him off and both get sent off? And even worse, the penalty goes to the Broncos despite their bloke throwing three (rather sissy) punches? Refs still shite.

Get fucked Brisbane! (I started drinking at kick off). Eat all the dick Bennett you cantankerous dinosaur.
We are the best down hill skiers in the comp. The Broncos having butter fingers played right in to our hands.
Huge game, huge result. When we are on, we will worry any team. Scoring points then kicking it out isso un-Warriors but so smart.
Green my MVP today, huge game. Paasi was every bit an old school warriors signing, and today he was huuuge. Kata's try in the 2nd half was as good as any you will see this year.
Fuck McCulloch. Worst player for Qld, and fights like a bitch. That is a fucked rule.
Cha fucking hooooo

Nice recognition of a great career. Surprising that he's the first

Amazing servant to the club, we'll miss his huge motor. A club legend

@canefan Lewis is gone!!? wtf, I thought he'd have had another year on the clock at least. Same as Mannering but both have had loooong careers. Both of these guys are made of steel, you don't get those sort of game stats without being a durable mofo!!
Mannering is one of the best we've seen for both the Warriors and the Kiwis. Will be sorely missed.
-
Shame to see Mannering retiring because he has a few more campaigns in him, but you can see Father Time has made great gains this season while Tohu Harris has replaced him as the 'franchise' forward.
My guess is Kearney told Mannering he was leaning towards Harris, Isaiah Papali'i, Leivaha Pulu, Jazz Tevaga and Adam Blair as his backrowers for 2019 and Simon really didn't want to move his family just to end his career playing for say, Parramatta.
Anyways, let's get Mannering into the playoffs and past the 300 game mark!

Mannering said his oldest son was the person who convinced him it was time to retire.

@canefan Had the privilege of seeing him play in a testimonial game in the mid-90's. Sure it was one of those matey muck-around matches (Bill Harrigan scored a try ffs) but he was still picking the ball up off his bootlaces and making those sweet short passes and offloads in contact that he was so famous for. A pleasure to watch.

He played at a time when we rarely beat Aussie. I still remember Kevin Tamati punching up Greg Dowling and Olsen Filipaina toe hacking goals

Mannering would have had a long Origin career if he'd been born Australian.
Never got the Aussie love he deserved IMO.
But a player that averages 95m and 32 tackles over a career this long is special.
All-time Warrior. Great career. Aussie love? He didn't get the kiwi love because he was overshadowed by flash players doing flash things around him. Mannering just got on with the job of being an effective, week in week out pro.
Champ, and will be missed. Hopefully slips in to a coaching role straight away. Should be a terrific mentor for young back rowers.

I'll admit there were times I didn't rate him, I especially thought he was going through the motions in the lead up to his 200th game ... but clearly I was wrong.
A pity he couldn't continue on and play a few more years. I think that the abbreviated nature of this season makes it difficult for coaches, fans and himself to judge how he'd go if he continued on. I hope it was just his decision and Kearney didn't push him out - that's just dumb. If he wanted to win a comp he probably could have signed for the Storm now that Hoffman is retiring ... he's like a better version of Hoffman anyway.
Annoyingly he was retired from my Warriors team on PS4 as well, stupid game doesn't tell you players are retiring, you just start the season with a few players down.

@mariner4life Mannering was an origin calibre player and was never really talk up as anything more than reliable by aussie comms and media.
He was a legit Luke Lewis or Matt Gillet class of player but because he played for NZ he was never really talked up as a premiere utility foward on this side of the ditch. Respected but not revered like he should have been.

Gillet? Gillet is shit. That's a smear on both Lewis and Mannering.

@mariner4life lol. He's not that bad, and I hate the broncos.
