WTF has Nicholls ever done? I'm not sure why he's in the team
He has done heaps. Some great innings against big attacks. Deserves to be there over a bits and pieces all rounder.
Heaps?
Yea, na!Like I said earlier, the odd 50 with a lot of nothing in between.
Averaging 38 at strike rate of 90, with 5 50s from 20 innings (in ODIs), so one in four, and would probably have converted one or two of these into a ton but for running out of overs since he bats so low. Plus crushes it whenever he goes back to domestic level.
He averages 35 now.. His average is inflated by having 6 not outs out of 21..
He's definitely done enough not to get dropped though..
Personally, Nicholls just looks really scratchy in most of his innings.. Even when he gets to 50, it like he just barely survived to get there.. But thats just my impression..If you want someone who crushes it at (ODI) domestic level, then Chapman is an option.. Better average, better strike rate, and more tons in less innings..
If we are running Kane/Taylor/Latham at 3/4/5, then I'd prefer someone like Chapman to come in at 6.. -
Taylor really has had a fine career. Well played that man.
Have a feeling that if he had been born 10 years later, he would have been a huge hit in the IPL, made much more money and possibly not even have played a test - he was a magnificent 6 hitter as a young man. Grafted like buggery to craft himself into an excellent test and ODI batsman.
Over 6000 test runs at 48
Over 7000 ODI runs at 45Santner's a lugubrious cricketer who can look bloody awful at times but he can hit a big ball ....

@booboo @Chris-B these blokes that come in after the fact and start critiquing the brave Ferners that put their balls on the line by posting in the heat of the moment are just the worst type of posters.
Yep. Hate them.

All I can say is that I am glad our coach isn't as fickle as some on here and sticks it out with his team.
Look, another one! Just the worst...
-
Now that he's reclassified Taylor as being in his team 😁

Yep, all the wise guys turning up after the game pretending in vain that they weren't also swearing at the TV when Santner couldn't get off strike etc.

I didn't watch the game as there was good racing in HongKong. Saw the result as I went to bed

Never claimed I wasn't swearing or thinking we'd dragged defeat from the jaws of victory ...

@donsteppa T20 aside which I couldn't give a rats about, we are a tidy team at the moment.
We're not too awful at T20s either - would be interesting to see who could beat that Australian team - not so much the bowlers, but that batting line-up is capable of massive damage on any sort of batting-friendly wicket.
We're currently ranked 4th in tests, 3rd in ODIs and 4th in T20s.

I agree, that Aus lineup is bloody fearsome in T20s - a result of a really strong domestic competition. Whatever the rankings say, that's the side I fear the most right now.

particularly considering how few people play it, and how (relatively) poorly funded we are. When I visited the UK, I couldn't believe the money in the game. We do well to compete, let alone win against the sheer number of professionals.
That said, Australia is on another level with cricket. Their domestic comps throw up so much talent (like the ITM/Super/Club setup in NZ), and generally iron out major weaknesses.

Eh? Sounds like bollox to me. Aus currently are flat track bullies..... and most pitches are flat tracks. They have not had weaknesses ironed out. They just don't get tested. The same reason Guptill is a white ball legend and a red ball under performer.
