What chance of an Irish grand slam next week at Twickers?
Will be getting up for that for sure. Disclaimer - significant Irish Heritage.

... and Eddie is true to form starting to have the wheels come off a coupel of years in. I think he's an abrasive micro manager, which works in the short term, but becomes massively irritating in the medium term. Just about every team he has coached have wound up parting ways, usually quite vigorously. World cup suddenly looks very close, and also a long way away

I expect these losses are down to the focus on a game in November rather than taking it one game at a time.

Is that the game between the 1st and 2nd* ranked teams in the world on 11 November?
(*Disclaimer this may only last for 6 days but intend toextract the max from it.)

Ha, didn't realise the slip down had happened but I guess losing to Scotland and France eats a chunk of points.

I don't really think that plays into it. If they were trying different things or players I could believe that was the case but this is simply a team that has a stale style and a lack of on field vision.
I'm not writing them off though, they are still good enough to beat good teams but they aren't the scary juggernaut they were being made out to be. -
@taniwharugby Fair enough. Could have just as easily been serious..
I'm sure I'll hear that one from plenty of locals in the coming months. -
What a match.
Thank God it was France. No other team could have done so much to shoot themselves in the foot and still win it.
Deserved. The May try should have been whistled back for Itoje infringing in the line out.
Without that score we wouldn't have had the drama.

I’d just like to say
Woo hoo.
3 6N championships in 5 years. We might actually be getting somewhere.
Enjoy PH. Well deserved 6N winners. Played the best rugby so far and by some margin. I'm just hoping we turn up at Twickenham and spoil the party just a little bit for you, but I'm not confident.

Looking forward to EJ comment .... think England were more shit today than France fantastic
Yep, we were dogshit until very late on. Lost out at the breakdown (again) and lost all our momentum in attack from either handling errors or more often poor discipline. If you can't build pressure it tends to come back at you.

Cheers Cato. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster given the very fine margin of the French match. Commiserations for your boys but I suspect they’ll be well up for this match with a point to prove especially with the strong record at home in Twickenham. Should be a great craic weekend.

Reaction in the papers seems to vary between realism and believing Eddie that it is just a little 'tough period'.
What got lost in the euphoria last year was that they could just as easily have been in a poor position in the 6N then as well with a couple of close escapes.
What looks to have happened is that the flaws were advertised last year and purchased by the opposition this year. Meanwhile England have done nothing to change either their style or mindset.
They went into that game yesterday knowing that they needed 4 tries yet (arrogantly?) decided that they would grind the French into playing like chooks instead of Roosters and reap the rewards late in the game. A risky plan that didn't come off at all.
I can't believe the debate in some quarters about the PT, with it being referred to as either a harsh call or 'unfair' (good old Kaplan again). You could show a clip of that PT in training videos as a correct call. In most games that would have been a YC if the tackle was in general play. When done against a player a metre from an open line the call is pretty simple.

@crucial Hard to argue with any of that. Last season Ireland and to an extent Wales showed how to combat this England side and we have not addressed that issue. In some way injuries have impacted Eddie's options with Curry, Underhill, Vunipola, Simmonds and Haskell all being unavailable at one point or another. I think that this stretching of what is not particularly wide resources in the back row has seemingly forced Eddie to take a step backwards in the AIs and now in the 6N. Add on to that the fact that we have been playing with a lot less confidence since Ireland turned us over last year, leading to heads down rugby, ill discipline and general errors creeping in where they were absent previously.
It will be interesting to see how Eddie attempts to turn the ship around.

@crucial PT was the correct call. Same thing happened in the Chiefs v Crusaders game. While I don't like the call, those are the rules right now.
My big gripe is with the deliberate pulling down of a moving maul just short of the tryline. That should at the very least be a yellow for me but if we are being consistent with what constitutes a PT, then a PT should be given for a maul collapse close to the line as well.
