Where the England 9 was allowed to take the quick tap was illegal, no wonder Aussie defence was subsequently scrambling and Beale felt compelled to snuff it out. He got a 5 second illegal head start.
The happy clappy 'punishment' for taking a quick penalty from the wrong spot (e.g, you have to re-take it) is not enough to deter cheating halfbacks.
Not sure why you say this. I've just re-watched it. O'Keefe is on the spot just in front of where the infringement took place, with his arm in the air indicating a penalty. Youngs is behind ie England side of O'Keefe and level with where the infringement took place when he tapped it. Unless I am missing something?

I have an issue with quick taps not taken in line with the penalty spot. For this offence if he wants to take a tap, the line of the mark is behind the ruck, not beside the ruck. After pulling that ball out of the ruck he needed to run behind the ruck to get in line with the mark, not take it 2m horizontal to the mark. This takes time.
He gained an unfair advantage of about 5 seconds. Unsurprising that the defence couldn't cope.
I had a few pages discussing this topic on one of the AB test threads this winter when nz scored after Aaron Smith did similar. I appear to be in a minority of 1. I don't like cheap yards (or cheap tries if 5m out) from illegally taken quick taps.
I don't expect refs to get everything, if this is missed and it is play on then, fair enough, Beale's card is incontestable. I'm surprised at Chieka and others moaning about a clear card.
I'd be focusing on where the tap was taken from if I was going to complain, not bare-faced lies about genuine intercept attempts.
I have quite a lot less rage for this incidence, a clear penalty 50m out. But an incorrect quick tap from a 50/50 technical scrum free kick while 8 players have their heads still shoved between people's hips gets me boiling with rage.

@barbarian as I said, I think he is a knob, but the fact that the producers decide to put the cameras on him after any decision goes against Aus is just looking for a reaction they know is coming.
Maybe they need to cut to him a bit more on the positives as well, as the coverage is not balanced.

@rapido I think I agree with your sentiment and it has made me look up the law and this is what I found:-
1.2 Where penalty and free kicks are taken
(a)
The kicker must take the penalty or free kick at the mark or anywhere behind it on a line through the mark. If the place for a penalty or free kick is within 5 metres of the goal line, the mark for the kick is 5 metres from the goal line, opposite the place of infringement.
(b)
When a penalty or free kick is awarded in in-goal, the mark for the kick is in the field of play, 5 metres from the goal line, in line with the place of infringement.
Sanction: Any infringement by the kicker’s team results in a scrum 5 metres from the goal line in line with the mark. The opposing team throws in the ball.(c)
If a quickly taken penalty kick or free kick is taken from the wrong place the referee will order the kick to be taken again.This to me raises the question of "where is the mark"? Logic would say behind the infringement but it could also equally be suggested that it is where the referee deems it. In this instance Youngs was England side of the ref and in full sight of the ref when he took the tap. Can't blame Youngs.
However I do get a sense of the bile rising in you on this one, so maybe we should chalk this one down to a rugby incident.

Having always considered Zavos a bit of a Walrus-lite knob, I was surprised to stumble across this article re indigenous players for the Wallabies - a good read (although I haven't read anything else on the topic, so I can't comment on how much is fact and how much opinion).
That's the second time in 24hrs that I've had my long held convictions re rugby journos shaken - I listened to a bit of S.Jones on The Ruck podcast recently, and he was actually fairly listenable and dare I say reasonable in opinions expressed. Signs and wonders, people, signs and wonders.

Nope, you didn't imagine it. He was up before the beak for swearing in the coach's. However, justice has been served. Interesting to see that Woodward came out batting for Krusty - and not the only high profile person to do so either.
