Kanazawa is a good trip - awesome seafood over there and it’s s pretty town - might be a bit more than 2 hours though.
Karuizawa is an hour away and has an outlet mall, if you are keen for shopping.
Seafood yes, shopping no. I'll have a look at the travel time thanks. Last time I went with Mrs CF we went down to Kyoto for a day but that was 4 hours one way. I don't want to spend one day of 6 on a train....
Looks like it is 3 hours

I am thinking about going to Japan but unfortunately wasnt able to get tickets to any of the good games.
Is there much of a chance to get tickets once in Japan? (eg, even though Hong Kong 7s is always sold out there is always a chance to get tickets outside the stadium)

I have pairs for both quarters ABs might be in. Won't get there till the next week. Coming from London. Pleased to let go at face, if practical. If not will release back into pool.

I'm sure any Ferners travelling already know this, but it is baseball season in Japan. It is a great experience to attend a game - I've been to Yokohama to watch the BayStars in their stadium by the sea, and the Giants playing in Tokyo dome - both were awesome.
Just an option for something else to do in an evening.

I checked the schedule. Looks like no baseball games in Tokyo in October

Oops, sorry it looks like the baseball season finishes end of September, I thought I was October. Maybe they finished the season earlier than usual because of the RWC.
Still a chance to see games until the end of the September. There is a Giants home game at Tokyo Dome on 27/9, but there are other teams easily accessible via train in other parts of Tokyo - Baystars, Swallows, Lions, Marines.

Hi everyone, I'm new here, though embarrassingly I used to lurk pretty heavily quite a few years ago...
I'm currently in Japan for the world cup, and have a few tickets available to the remaining All Blacks and Scotland group games, and I was wondering if there were any Ferners who were looking (or knew someone who was).
For the All Blacks, I have 2 category C team packs and 2 category D team packs available (i.e. tickets for the remaining 3 games), though I am not going to make it to Oita for the next game (Canada) so it might be tricky to get hold of them for that one. I'm currently in Kyoto if that's any help.
For Scotland, I have 2 category C OR 2 category D tickets for each of the Russia and Japan games. I will be going to both of these games so we can meet at the stadium beforehand (I will use the two tickets that you don't want).
Would be hoping to get face value for the tickets if possible.
Thanks for reading, I appreciate this is pretty short notice! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks mate appreciate it does sound dodgy, but it's not. I'll be at all the games except the NZ vs Canada one so can meet in person.

Budget dependent, I'm a big fan of Shinjuku, but for train access to the Yokohama games plus main sites, Shibuya is a good option (anywhere on the Toyoko line is good for this). You can go as far up as Ikebukuro as the Fukutoshin lines runs through there.
I'd also be tempted to stay in Yokohama and catch the Shinkansen one stop to Shin Yokohama - definitely one for people with the rail pass (but you'd need to be doing other traveling to make that worth while).
Also, staying in Yokohama is nice - look in the Minato Mirai area.
In Yokohama for semi's. Get in late on Friday at Haneda. Then heading to Tokyo on Monday.
Shinjuku looks a good option and plenty to do round there, but will head to Palace gardens at some stage and maybe train to Kanazawa. Point being need to take get a grip on transport around the City. Assuming trains?
Have you sorted @canefan ?

Buy a JR pass online before you leave for Japan. You validate it at the airport when you arrive. Depending on the trip duration and the pass type you should get one or both trips from airport to Tokyo inclusive, plus any inter city travel as well. The tokyo train system is unusual, the city is covered by 3 overlapping networks; JR, the metro underground, and a third private company. You can get most places on the JR network and pay per trip on the others
