Raeburn Shield
-
The first international mens rugby match was 150 years ago today!
Feel free to show it love in your preferred social channel... (here, or one of the big tech beasts!)
Had hoped to be able to time a visit to Edinburgh for this at one point but as with many things Covid has buggered that. (And the fact today is the due date for our third child!)
-
Are the Lions included?
Club / Provincial sides which play touring international teams?
-
Good question
Straight answer is no
Essentially it is only available between nations. Easiest way to think about it is if you could conceivably qualify for a RWC then you can win the Raeburn Shield
-
If anybody is on reddit and can upvote this so a large community there see it I would be stoked too.

Just gave you a plug replying to World Rugby's tweet. See you've replied

Thank you sir, every little helps
Me and my 17 followers, 11 of whom have no idea who they are ... although 3 of them seem to want to have a deep and meaningful relationship and find me veery sexy...

There are two others?

After a crazy long time between challenges the Raeburn Shield is finally on the line again today.
Georgia get only their third ever shot at it. The Boks may well be quite rusty but still expect them to defend successfully in truth

@davesofthunder I would laugh my proverbials off if they lost! Foster would get an instant contract extension for getting the ABs back to No 1
-
Honestly after this long playing together anything is possible.
Didn't one of the South African provincial sides get smashed by an Italian team a couple of weeks back?
But yeah, I expect them to ease past Georgia
-
@davesofthunder We want them to keep it so the ABs can take it back in the RC

@machpants South Africa play Georgia twice! Let Georgia take it in this game, and SA take it back next week!
-
And just to keep this thread updated.
The Wallabies are now the Raeburn Shield holders after taking it off of the Springboks.
If the All Blacks want a shot at it they really need the Boks to win it back this weekend.
-
-
one of the holders should just make the thing and give it to the next team that beats them, once its out there it would keep going

Thatβs pretty much what I see happening, a boklash!

I am actually thinking about just finding a woodworking class (or a youtube woodworker who wants an interesting project) and just getting it done.
I have spent so much time on the shield that the idea I actually create the physical shields appeal a lot!
