World, NZ & other Rugby & Sports Awards 2017

Barrett doesn't deserve it, and I agree Itoje was underwhelming, unless you get this award for being an annoying prick at the ruck.
That leaves Ioane, Farrell & Folau. All have had great years, maybe too early for Ioane. Folau was had a stellar try scoring year and Farrell was tidy for the Lions and dominate for England.
I reckon - Farrell for the win

Sums it up for me too.

@bones admittedly I don't watch as much of NH rugby as I used to, was looking forward to seeing him in NZ an expected big things of him, but ended underwhelmed and thinking he was a lazier version of Ali Williams.
Itoje is more over rated than Ngatai.
If the panel that decide these awards want to encourage players that stand offside and scream at the opposition in the lineout then the awards are a joke.
Kind of proven anyway by the nomination of BB. Not deserving at all this year. I am struggling to recall a good test match from him (by his standards)
-
Yeah, you have to wonder about these awards, as no NZer appears to have come to the defence of BB's inclusion in the nominations (as yet, the internet might be out at Rancids). Maybe it's like the Emmys and if you win one year you'll keep getting nominated.
I'd guess I'd go with Folau of those left given that Ioane is probably too young and will likely pick up newcomer. Folau might need some perking up as he lost the same-sex marriage referendum today.

It's funny reading all these comments (not saying I disagree!); you'd think the people on the selection panel would know what they're doing
Both shortlists were selected by the new star-studded World Rugby Awards panel which comprises Rugby World Cup winners Richie McCaw, John Smit, George Gregan, Maggie Alphonsi and former England coach Clive Woodward alongside Brian O’Driscoll, Fabien Galthié and AgustÃn Pichot.
.
In a new step in the selection process, fans, international captains, coaches and media will have their say before the panel considers the winners of the prestigious awards. Fans can find out how to cast their vote here. -

Beaudy wasn't expecting to be named POTY...
comments in speech "I wasn't expecting this" "Was aiming to be better than last year, but felt had a way to go"Personally think that if Folau plays EOYT he wins, was hoping for Ioane.
Beaudy did score 4th most points by an AB in a calendar year (DC with other 3)
Set a world record for conversions too apparently.Wonder if domestic form is taken into consideration by judges?
-
Good thing they don't award these things based on reputation...
He hasn't been nearly as bad as some people here would claim, but no way did he deserve that. I thought Ioane was a lock.
-
Eddie Jones all class
Shag should have won. With all the injuries and new faces it is an achievement that we kept winning as usual. The only blot, if you want to call it that, was failing to dispatch the Lions
-
It shouldn't be long until the finalists for the NZ Rugby Awards will be announced. That will be interesting, but I don't think the All Blacks will feature among the nominees for the team of the year. Don't expect BB among the nominees (for whatever category) either, but definitely Rieko and Portia. Black Ferns and Crusaders for team of the year, possibly the Black Ferns 7s and/or Canterbury as well.
-
Portia Woodman is jacked. Some pretty good highlights from the women's game. I should try and watch more of it as it looks like it gets played at a pretty good pace.
I'm surprised Barrett won that... but I think the year McCaw won over O'Driscoll was more of a surprise. It just seems it was slim pickings this year... I would consider 3 of the 5 overrated. Judged on 2017's own merit as opposed to the high standard he set last year I would have picked Barrett over Itoje and Farrell.
-
The ABs and coach are certainties to win the Halbergs if they do something significant (i.e., RWC, undefeated season) but this season they didn't. That should give other sports and their coaches more well-deserved recognition.
As to the WR player of the year awards, the most surprising was the year Shane Williams won in 2008.

Portia Woodman is jacked.
Wasn't sure what you meant by "Jacked" so googled:
jacked
adjectiveUSinformal
1.
physically or mentally stimulated from the effects of a drug or stimulant.
"a racing car driver, jacked up on amphetamines"That what you mean? Or just that she is "well built'? Certainly deserves the award as did Blyde.
