By the way, if you're looking for the squad lists of the non-NZ teams:
The Tongan team only assembled 5 days ago, so had limited time to prepare.

Presumably Fijiana are just just running out the B team for half their games?
"FRU will field two women’s and a men’s team in the tournament which also consists of three teams from New Zealand"
Seems like an expensive exercise for 42 minutes of rugby. But, I s'pose that's what they've got to do...
-
@Kiap The media release from Oceania Rugby (7 June) mentioned a number of 6 men's and 6 women's teams would participate in this event. Either some teams have withdrawn (maybe PNG and the "invitational Oceania side?) or they play a separate set of games. If I had to guess, that media release from Fiji Rugby was already outdated when it was published and they've only sent one women's team.
-
@Stargazer I wondered same and think you are right. But once again poor media buildup for this event.
Great result v Fiji and finally seeing Rhodes Featherstone shining in black... at least a year late.
Che Clark worries me with his flippant ball handling. Teams will target that. Rokolisoa Curry and NG Shiu all looking good. And more matches like this will improve Carter and Tangitau and develop their instincts under pressure. -
@ARHS Just found this media release from Oceania Rugby. It's dated 22 June 2022, but I can't remember seeing it when I looked at their website, yesterday morning.
Unfortunately, due to changes to flight schedules and visa complications Papua New Guinea are unable to travel on the dates required in order to arrive in time for the Tournament and have had to regrettably withdraw.
No link to the revised draw though and the full time scores they post on their website and social media are sometimes wrong, too.
If it wasn't for NZR's social media posts, we wouldn't know who were playing when.

That’s got to be the most dumb arse play from Caleb Tangitau that you will ever see at any level of rugby in 2022 🤦🏻
-
Haha, that was a weird end to the game.
Caleb Tangitau thought he could end the game by throwing the ball out instead of kicking it out. From the interview just now, it's clear he didn't know that rule.
And then, after getting the penalty, the Aussie just drops the ball.
Anyway, AB7s beat Oz 17 - 12.

Imagine if that was the Olympic final ..still shaking my head
