Far out that was poor from NZ. Pretty disgusting tackle attempt from McGarvey-Black (sp?) on Barrett too, should probably have been yellow which balances out the bizarre card for Ravouvou.
I'm struggling to see why we have a foreign coach.

Who would you suggest as a NZ sevens coach, who could do a better job?

No surprise, AB7s lose to the USA 0-17.

No excuses, the AB7s would have lost anyway, but there was some terrible refereeing in this Cup QF. For example in the last few minutes, the US restart wasn't 10m but was allowed to continue. And the last US try was awarded despite the player crawling forward because he was short of the line. Arguably, he didn't even ground the ball. Why Ravouvou got yellow just before the ref awarded that try is questionable, too.

    1. You are allowed to place the ball for a try
    2. At kick-off if the ball doesn't go 10m and the opposition (NZ) plays the ball (e.g. in the air), then play continues. You are just irked that NZ lost the possession.
    3. I don't have issue with Ravouvou being carded. He can sit out the next game.

Why you blaming the coach? You need 2 playmakers and 2 speedsters?

NZ didn't fire a shot in that game. Still have the same deficiences.

Wow, well done Kenya, beating England in the Cup QF 12 - 0.

NZ will play England in the 5th place semi-final at 10.46am.

They played well on day 1. There are clear improvements compared to the last few years. Very inconsistent performances though and they seem to find it difficult to stay focused for 2 days. Not sure that's due to (just) coaching.

Don’t really follow 7s but are NZ becoming a 2nd tier nation these days? USA this time I see. Would be unthinkable in the 15s version.

I'm not sure having no coach would be much worse, if at all. If we're going to have a foreign coach why didn't we actually have someone properly proven?

Yes but the whole of the Sevens is flattening out it seems. It was USA v Argentina in the last final. All the teams are getting so much better at scoring when they have possession so games can turn on winning the kick-offs, the decisions of the ref etc.

Blitzbokke will struggle against Fiji in the semi-final. Fiji are quite rampant at the moment.

They are also missing a sevens team of players through either injury or SR commitments. So there is that as well.

NZ also lose this game: 17 - 21 to England.

Good game from Curry, McGarvey-Black and Ravouvou, but I seriously wonder why guys like Collier and Baker are in the squad. There must be better injury replacements. They missed Mikkelson big time.

    England has some great speedsters.

It's not so much "is NZ becoming a second tier nation" at sevens...it already is. They are only a shadow of what they used to be. They make watching their games both embarrassing and absolutely fkn frustrating.
