Eden Park

Seems strange that a trust that has been putting their hand out for years cause they're ALWAYS in the shit financially have never sold the naming rights.. such a simple income stream.. what's their excuse?!
Operationally, Eden Park makes money - the loss is because of depreciation.
I thought they struggled to pay their debts and were always asking the council to write off their loans... which suggest a cashflow issue?
I think "Stadium Steinie" has a nice ring to it.. ha.

I just read the naming is only for one week? did i miss that earlier?
"Eden Park will sell the naming rights to the national stadium for one week - during the Bledisloe Cup later this month. ASB Bank has secured the temporary naming rights and plans to gift it to a struggling New Zealand business.
-
Eden Park's accounts are online as a registered charity - they lose money after depreciation is taken into account i.e. replacement costs of the assets. That's obviously a reasonable accounting point over the lifetime of the stadium, but they don't struggle to pay the running costs with the ticket sales in a normal year (Covid aside).

That's pretty weird!

@Tim Lancaster Park at Jade Stadium doesn't work for you?
Was the other way round at Lancaster Park i.e. Jade Stadium at Lancaster Park. Commentators tried just calling it Lancaster Park at first, but got pulled into line by someone over it (for the obvious commercial reasons of not giving sponsors their money's worth) and it just became Jade Stadium over time.
Though, now that it's fucked apparently it is Lancaster Park again.

Arise dead thread!
Sounds good, but "Friday's announcement did not include a timeframe or a cost estimate, or how the development will be funded."

Here’s a cringey marketing video.
1:20 in they start giving some info
There’s 4 seperate stages to the wish list.
Good, but I'd prefer they give up on cricket and make it suit the football codes.
100%. Eden Park number 2 for cricket. Dont need 60k for cricket.
Or perhaps NH stadium.

I'd like to see more details on the proposed North stand. There's a brief glimpse on the video but it's hard to tell.. if they manage to take out most of the bottom tier of the North stand for the cricket configuration that should gain a few metres on the straight boundary
White ball cricket has actually been quite good at Eden Park. Up until recently I was attending every event at Eden Park so I saw plenty of it. For whatever reason it keeps producing entertaining games, not all dominated by the bat either.
Auckland needs to build a small Test venue somewhere else though

I might be the only one but...
It really pisses me off when they go on about being "New Zealands National Stadium"
It's total bollocks and obviously people trying to claim Twickenham like status when NZ distributed games around the country unlike the NH.
Have noticed them claiming it in more and more materials in recent years and cannot say I am keen
