All Blacks v BI Lions Test #3

Now that I think about it both teams were a bit shit.
Lions had a burl didnt look really likely at all and fucked up plenty, wonky lineouts, knock ons etc.
And NZ with too many fuckups to capitalise. If that performance was trundled out by the 2015 vintage there'd be calls for heads to roll.
Some of it has to be on the captain. Fuck the ref, he was always goign to be suspect and shouldve been removed from computations well before the 79th minute. Yes, there's some newbie 2nd stringers in there but the blue heads of yesteryear seem to have gone a bit red headed stepsister. Shouldve been enough caps in that AB pack to find away after all the Lions flubs.
Hansen seems quite content with a draw. In fact, the whole coaching staff seem like a very cosy and content little cabal of tenured ivory towered professors. And who's next? Preordained. Yes, it's tonights fucking AB attack coach! Ian fucking Foster. He's Shag's mate! Fuck this, now I'm getting annoyed. Where's the accountability?
Have a lot of sympathy for this, but I think we ought to ask ourselves what the score might have been had our starting backline been Smith/BB/SBW/Crotty/Ioane/Dagg/Bender. Quite a lot of experienced cattle left out. Also heard somewhere that ball was quite slippery, which would be consistent with the extraordinary error rate. I can't remember an AB test with so many scrums! And in the final analysis refereeing incontestably saved the pride.
Sure there will be a long video nasty for the team to view on Monday. -

I really want to be a "rugby was the winner" type guy right now, but everything in my being is telling me to find the nearest Citroen and fuck that shit up.
AB's fucked up. Jordie should have been kicking. Where does it say your 10 has to kick goals? We dropped balls on the last pass maybe 4-5 times with the line beckoning.
Hansen and co made sub for subs sake. Aaron Cruden got 50 up, well done, but Barrett was better off staying there. Stupid sub.
Fekitoa did not need to come on. Him and his upright running style and die with the ball attitude can fuck right off thanks. Why leave TJ off until the last 7min? Thats not tactical, there is no point to that sub. Thats incompetent.
However - How is it possible that Poite can allow the entire Lions squad to talk to him but Read at the end is not allowed to ask a question? How is it possible that over this series that the ABs can be penalised for an offence and then the lions for the same offence only moments later go without punishment?
Anyway there are bigger things in this world to worry about. Well done the Lions for bringing it and playing what was in front of them....even when it was their own man.
1st bolded bit. This shits me. If Jordie is the better kicker he kicks. Fuck I recall a lock kicking successfully for a tier one nation whi also used a centre around the same period. (Goung way back I recall a prop toe hacking for King Country ... but I digress).
Piri kicked in the RWC. Etc etc
2nd bolded bit. When I saw the ref appointments I was worried. In retrospect I'd have preferred non-neutrals like Nigel Owens or even Wayne Barnes (yes, Wayne Barnes).

I thought poire was really good (yeah, someone reffed the gap in the lineout).
But warburtin not a penalty early on that was just a champion steal. And well the offside that wasn't. It was a technical penalty which nz lost a game by last weekend.

Interesting stat
The only stats that matter:
NZ 1
Lions 1
Drawn 1Forget Poite-gate - the ABs didn't take the game away from the Lions in the first 20 when they were on top.
True, we should have put that game to bed in the first half, but I bet if the shoe was on the other foot and poite had changed his mind to a wrong call you'd be equally as livid...or maybe the Lions are better at arguing with the ref than us.
2 shocking calls in the last minute of last 2 games....why wouldn't they have the same ref over 3 games? Graces should never have been given last week's game, Poite and Peyper yes, but I'd prefer they tried the same ref.
Poite wa not the reason we lost, but was a factor (rest were on us) in why we didn't win.

Could be an interesting season with a few more twists and turns yet ,
Havent seen them myself, but all reports are saying the Boks are turning the corner ,and starting to look the real deal
England at twickers later onNot trolling here, but I find that incredible.
I can understand the average Kiwi supporter being unfamiliar with a lot of the BIL players, and vice versa.
But not to have watched the SA provinces and /or SA national team and not know the calibre of your upcoming opponents when you play in the same competition each year is baffling.
We're rugby fans. Not video analysts for the ABs.
I'm not about to watch games in the middle of the night where I have no emotional investment.

@KiwiMurph My Memory is that bad? Ok I guess I'll retract everything prior. Angus Gardiner is the guy I was thinking of. Thanks for helping out the old guy :-).
Sorry mate. Just a wee tetchy after the result.

@Rapido consistency
Not sure that could be achieved with any of those three refs
-
@booboo maybe not...I'd be interested to see how it worked as players would be better served by the differing interpretations from the ref.
Am sure it wouldn't be perfect either but this way is not ideal either when you hafe at least 1 woefully out of his depth.

@taniwharugby said in All Blacks v BI Lions Test #3:
@Rapido consistency
I wouldn't be onboard for that.
Seems a bit isolationist. Need constant exposure to all the different refs imo (as a team). -
@Rapido yea not ideal but better have 1 good ref for 3 games than 1 good one, one average and one poor?
Guess it's just still sucks that 2 games outcomes have been determined by 2 poor refereeing decisions (that a sole ref could still have made) although to leave your fate in the hands of an official (again) is a bigger concern

@Tim I think he's really only there for injury cover. A genuine lock that is a very good lineout option. They basically play the two starters for the whole game if they haven't got injured. Scott came on tonight for what 5 minutes?
I know this doesn't fit your Luatua argument but if Squire is fit, he's in the 23.
And Squire was injured for the entire series. Picking an injured player ahead of Luatua was another Hansen stroke of genius.

Their teams are shit, we hardly play them, the games are on at 3 am and their tests were after the Lions. Most people only have time to watch 2-3 games a weekend. Better to watch the NZ teams.
There are these two things called the internet and being able to record tv programmes to watch at your leisure
