All Blacks v BI Lions Test #2

i like the team ,
Shag going for the jugular .

Now I'm foolishly tempting fate, but...
Win this weekend = open wound
Rest & rotate for 3rd test = add salt
Still win = a bit of vinegar for good measureOn the other hand, Lions win...and that 3rd test will be something else...

Alb could probably cover wing if he had to , SBW has done it in the past as well. im talking emergencies there . Nigel Yalden said there were considerations for Lima to replace Cruden because they believe he is capable of playing back 3 which is interesting , they mustve gone against that.

Have to wonder what happens if a winger gets injured? BB to cover the back 3?
It doesn't matter 😞

Given the amount of balls that will be in the air, I'm hoping that they've done some work with Naholo given he has a tendancy to carelessly play the man in the air.
Like the team though!
-
@taniwharugby his actual catching skills are pretty good , but has some history of interfering with the man when beaten ,
Im sure they have worked on that
-
@kiwiinmelb yeah that's what I mean, had a tendancy to not pull out when he has no chance of taking it...but yeah I'd be surprised if they haven't done work on it, plus it is more on the kick chase he has issues than kick reception.

It's pretty difficult under today's interpretation. It's not so much that he has no chance of catching it, I think a number of the penalties he's conceded he would have taken it if there was no opposing player. It's more that he has a tendency to jump 2nd, and if you jump 2nd you are in the wrong and will concede the penalty. Either jump early or don't jump at all.

Anyway happy with the team, especially pleased they haven't moved the worlds best 10 out of position. Naholo was excellent for the Landers against the Lions so has some form, as does Laumape who I'm pretty excited to see come off the bench in the last 10 - 15 minutes. Dagg showing his value in the squad, no dramas at all having him at the back and his boot will be invaluable.
Everything else as expected. S Barrett survives the chop despite his miss tackle on Webb at the end of the first test. ALB slots into 13 as expected, though the Lions will target the SBW-ALB pairing as they left a few holes that Samoa exploited so hoping they've tightened that up.
Looking forward to it. If the ABs get ascendancy up front early then the likes of Naholo and Rieko could run rampant.

Laumape? Minor surprise for me. Woukd have gone JB.
Want to see Wise with ball in hand.
-
@No-Quarter a lot of things you do in rugby would be easier with no opposing player

Not cleanouts though, would get penalised every time for going off your feet.

Naholo was very confident under the high ball in the Highlanders-Lions game but that was under the roof.
With rain forecast and the typical Wellington wind the conditions will be quite different.
A predictable team given the injuries.
The risk involved for them kicking to naholo is when he catches it and starts swatting off defenders

Happy with the team Pleased Laumape has been rewarded for his efforts not only on Tuesday v the Lions - but throughout the season.
Like the balance in the back 3. Also pleased Shag and co haven't erred from their strategy nor bowed to local pressure to include the Bus for the Caketin test. Time for a hungrier work ethic (no pun intended).
