I'm trying really hard but I can't think of a crapper winger than Nowell.....and he's not even Welsh!

He's a lot better than he has shown on tour, but he is definitely NOT your classic winger, for one thing he doesn't have the pace at the highest level. His game is all about popping up all over the place, beating the first defender and then seeing what eventuates after that. He took a little while to find his niche with England and has benefitted under Eddie Jones who appreciates what he brings and uses it.

Having said all that, for the Lions with the short assimilation time and also the more direct way Gatland likes to play, I would have taken Johnny May in preference purely because he would fit that bit better. Oh and he does have pace.

    Yarde's not complaining 😉

He always looks as though he's just about to though.

@Nepia tongue in cheek comment...I guess they (Chiefs management) dont feel they can back up, cos if I was in that game last night and the chance to run out again for redemption of sorts, I'd be all over that.

14 Jack Nowell – Exeter Chiefs, England, #828
    13 Jared Payne – Ulster, Ireland, #830
    12 Robbie Henshaw – Leinster, Ireland, #824

3 Dan Cole – Leicester Tigers, England, #794
    4 Iain Henderson – Ulster, Ireland, #808
5 Courtney Lawes – Northampton Saints, England, #826
    6 James Haskell – Wasps, England, #823
    7 Justin Tipuric – Ospreys, Wales, #786
    8 CJ Stander – Munster, Ireland, #831

    Replacements:
16 Kristian Dacey – Cardiff Blues, Wales
17 Allan Dell – Edinburgh Rugby, Scotland
18 Tomas Francis – Exeter Chiefs, Wales
19 Cory Hill – Newport Gwent Dragons, Wales
20 Alun Wyn Jones – Ospreys, Wales, #761
21 Gareth Davies – Scarlets, Wales
22 Finn Russell – Glasgow Warriors, Scotland
23 Tommy Seymour – Glasgow Warriors, Scotland, #813

Interesting that AWJ on bench. Despite all those reinforcements they still can't rest the entire test 23! Joseph looks to be cover for for wing/centre in test 23 with Watson covering fullback.
Only intrigue is whether or not Farrell fit and whether SOB will start or be impact replacement. Owen/AWJ to be finishers

How does Joseph fit in to your Test backline '10'? Doesn't figure in mine. I've got Daly taking that role because I don't see Gatland dropping North even though he should.

I must say I'd have JJ at 13, to add x-factor. Then Te'O as a finisher. But expect Gats to play it straight and go for Farrell/Te'O/Davies, with JJ bench. Still a chance of Daly or L Williams squeezing into a start if either lays down the gauntlet on Tuesday.

DMac wasn't available for selection due to a neck injury. Rennie said he would have been on the bench otherwise.

I wasn't expecting any of the Maori players bar Elliot to be playing. Like @Nepia I would have started him, but Polwart has played ahead of Hika in recent weeks.

That's the Chiefs forward pack I was expecting to start. We've got 2 green halfbacks though, whereas last year vs Wales, Weber was in the no.9 jersey.

As a comparison this was that starting XV:

    1. Mitchell Graham (23)
    2. Rhys Marshall (30)
    3. Hiroshi Yamashita (7)
    4. Dominic Bird (5)
    5. Michael Allardice (17)
    6. Mitchell Brown*
    7. Lachlan Boshier (2)
    8. Tom Sanders (9)
    9. Brad Weber (36)
    10. Stephen Donald (87) Captain
    11. Sam Vaka (3)
    12. Andrew Horrell (53)
    13. Anton Lienert-Brown (18)
    14. Toni Pulu (7)
    15. James Lowe (31)

Just really still disappointed with how the MABs played I guess, but I would have expected more Chiefs MABs to back up after such a shocking display on Saturday. DMac with a neck injury? Ok, but he semed ok before he was dragged.

So you have a Webb, Sexton, Joseph bench?

If so, two of Daly, Watson, Williams miss out

Bugger. Weaker than the side that beat Wales. Donald will have to do it almost single handedly...

That's the way it looks. But clear that William or Daly can play their way in tomorrow. BTW am I right that North is usually a right wing: Daly and Williams usually operate on left? If so, a switch to his usual might aid things.

North has been playing 14 / right wing for Wales. Had to check the numbers myself after the MAB match

I'm fucking hoping that Best, Henderson, Haskell and Stander go on a whirlwind followed by Henshaw, Payne and Daly running in six tries with Marler taking the conversions and in the post-game interviews, Best does a straight face in which he says - "well we felt we should show the lads how it should be done for Saturday, and get our side of the job complete, now it's over to them. Isn't that right, Warren?
