"Jamie Heaslip couldn't hide his joy after the draw, with an instinctive fist-pump underscoring their hugely agreeable line-up."
I don't think he's realised that the draw very likely means a QF against either NZ or SA.

Sorry to break this to all you guys, but it doesn't matter anyway, nobody's interested in the World Cup. It's just a money-spinner with fake enthusiasm pushed by the broadcasters, newspapers, and merchandising salesmen.

It's not a bad draw i guess. It lacks that balls-out excitement of that pool from 2015, but overall it's as good as you can expect.

Pool A looks tasty, with Scotland more than capable of tipping over the Irish, and the Japanese as home will be a fun proposition.

Italy can't throw any games if they hope to qualify, so we'll get two decent games, and 2 complete tune ups.

Pool C will be a shit fight, but good for England as they'll get two tough games. Picking the Argies to kick the Frogs out.

Pool D is the only shit pool, with a bunch of average teams, which Aus will top thanks to Wales' mental block.

Hey, we don't have Tonga for a change!

It's looking like NZ v England final, but there's always one upset that throws the whole draw open.

@mariner4life Nice summary. I think its actually looking like an ABs-England semi final if both teams top their pools and win quarters.

Yep, if the draw stays the same as previous RWCs then the only way NZ could play England in the final is if one of them finishes runner-up in their pool.

    The likely match-ups would be:

    Quarter-Final 1 (Winner Pool C v Runner-Up Pool D) England vs Wales
    Quarter-Final 2 (Winner Pool B v Runner-Up Pool A) NZ vs Scotland
    Quarter-Final 3 (Winner Pool D v Runner-Up Pool C) Aust vs France
    Quarter-Final 4 (Winner Pool A v Runner-Up Pool B ) Ireland vs SA

    Semi-Final 1 (Winner Quarter-Final 1 v Winner Quarter-Final 2) England vs NZ
    Semi-Final 2 (Winner Quarter-Final 3 v Winner Quarter-Final 4) Aust/France vs Ireland/SA

Minus 2 out of 10 for trolling qualities. And another point deducted for being late with your comment.

    Tsk, tsk.

-3/10. Must try harder. Please sit at back of class from now on and learn from the masters.

The quarter final lineups will be as you state I.e. A1 v B2. etc., according to WR site. Can't find anything on senifinals though.

@Pot-Hale This QF and SF format was used at the 2011 and 2015 RWCs.

Who knows. Teams can look like world beaters now and turn up utter dog crap come World Cup year. England had beaten us soundly at Twickenham and gone 4-1 in the Six Nations at the same time last RWC cycle - they were viewed as a tough out.

From a NZ perspective I like the idea of playing SA in the pool rounds. It gives us something different to break the monotony of being paired with Tonga, Argentina, France & in the early days Wales - did pick up Italy again though.

In terms of draw structure what is better the Boks first up, last or somewhere in the middle?

The format where the ABs end up alone at the end? I understand they will be using it in 2019 also.
