Highlanders vs. Blues

I say dump this prick. The ABs don't need him and neither does NZ rugby.
You might want to speak to the sponsor first who are clearly smart enough that this furore has provided them with an amount of free advertising they couldn't have hoped for. Arguably on a level that their actual sponsorship wasn't going to provide.

Something that has been mentioned numerous times already.
Makes SBW's "moral stand" even more ridiculous.

@Dice the ultimate team guy is Sonny. Pulu, Moala and the two hookers are probably thanking him. The media aren't really talking about the poor passing and diddlying around at the base by Pulu, or the fact that George looks a shadow of himself and was outplayed by his direct competition for an AB squad jumper, or the fact neither hooker can throw with any degree of consistency, or the second unit scrum being on ice skates.
Well done that man

Sonny played great! Let's talk about his return from a major injury ie: Achilles torn to shreds, reconstructed and back on the field in 8 mths, legend!

Showed some good pace and power in that break as well. Should have created a try but for a dumb prop.

So before SBW is burnt at the stake here is a different view on the conscientious objection clause.
Of course, I assume SBW won't be playing the 2nd test vs the Lions either.
-
@Frye Instant Finance?
Obviously these sort of things happen more often than we think. It's just not played out in the public arena.
Sure SBW could have handled it better but the only option I see is to have a specially made jersey missing certain sponsors logos like Amla and Tahir do with the SA cricket team.
-
@Bovidae the issue for me is why has this suddenly become an issue for him?
I know people love to put the boot into the guy, and some of it is well deserved, but what you hear form his team mates and coaches, he is the ultimate professional and great guy to have in your team, so makes you wonder if it is the advice (or lack of) he gets elsewhere about things that seem to be the issue.

He had the names of his family embroidered into the jersey so you'd imagine it would have been easy enough for the logo to be removed pre-game. But nobody would have noticed that so what would be the point.
Doing an add is completely different imho because it makes you a public face of that product and implies that you personally endorse it.

I'd expect the jerseys are bulk made and the extra embroidery is post.

Sure, but he's had ample time to request any alterations.

So your issue is timing?

Sonny Bill Williams is on the brink of getting a dispensation to wear a special jersey without the logos of two of the Blues' and New Zealand Rugby's most significant sponsors on it.

New Zealand Rugby has confirmed that all of the country's professional rugby players have a clause in their collective contracts allowing them to opt out of promoting finance companies, banks, alcohol companies, tobacco companies and gambling companies.
Doesn't seem to be a problem to me. I'd wager AIG will still be prominent on a particular black jersey he wears...
-
@antipodean guess Insurance is seen slightly differently but Allah?
-
I prefer jerseys free from Sponsors logos.
I trust the public will be given the option to buy the Blues jersey, SBW edition...
