Black Caps fast bowler Tim Southee has been ruled out of the third test against South Africa due to a hamstring injury. A scan today showed Southee to have suffered a grade-one tear of his left hamstring.

@Bovidae Do some questions need to be asked of the Strength and Conditioning work of the Black Caps? Seems like an awful high number of injuries this summer? Perhaps just an outlier.

@KiwiMurph We've always had injured pace bowlers so nothing has really changed this season. Aust are having the same problems (e.g. Starc) - too many games.

Boult is no certainty to play so it could be Wagner and Henry as the frontline bowlers.

de Kock is also in doubt for SA and he would be a huge loss.

A while back under Bond we had Boult and Southee fit and firing for an extended period of time and bowling in the 140s. I remember an interview with Boult where he talked about the extensive strength conditioning they were doing which was paying dividends.

No idea if we've changed anything but there's been a run of injuries of late, and both bowlers have been down on pace.

I think Chris Donaldson is still doing fitness work with the team. Reckon it was his influence alongside Bond - they seemed to get some really good results with Southee and Boult,

Confirmation that Boult is also out of the 3rd test. Scott Kuggeleijn has been named as injury cover.

Guess they better beef up security at the ground then

I think Kuggeleijn would have made the side earlier if 'that case' wasn't hanging over his head.

I think he'll leap frog CDG in the allrounder pecking order.

I'm not sure Kuggeleijn will play but he is a genuine wicket taker and is quick (mid 140s). A handy lower order bat too.

Rain is forecast on every day so there might not be a test.

That is an extremely foolish selection by NZ Cricket.

Did they not see the shitstorms that blew up around the Chiefs and Wellington rugby?

"Oh, that looks like fun and good PR. We'll have a piece of that."

The man is innocent. So no problem. The PC police can fuck right off.

    @Gunner Good luck with that.

NZ Cricket have painted a big red nose on their faces and said "punch me".

They've asked and they will surely receive.

I'm not sure what you are saying. Are you saying they shouldn't have selected him?

I agree there will be a reaction from some sections of the media, but shouldn't they ignore that?

@Duluth I think it's complete madness to select him a couple of weeks after his rape re-trial finished.

It will be more than the media reacting and they are running a business - they might as well sack their PR department.

@Hooroo Maybe in a couple of years, when he's slipped out of the immediate public consciousness.
