A plea to Fitzy

Fitzy,
You are/were an AB great. Your teams provided some of the highlights of my rugby watching career.
But please, I beg of you, learn how to pronounce the names of kiwi players you are being asked to comment about. Just because no one in the UK will pull you up when you talk about Julian Sar-Vay-Ar and the Eye-Onie brothers or Seta Ta-ma-na-voo-loo doesn't mean you should show your ignorance or lack of preparartion.
You are still representing NZ when sitting on that panel as an 'expert'. I can take it that you don't really offer much insight or have really little idea about NZ rugby these days but at least do Dane Coles the courtesy of not calling him Dan.
I find it difficult to criticise you in front of the poms due to your AB standing but you make me cringe at times. I know you have spent a long time over here but I swear, if I hear you say 'Hakka' I will find you.......
Can I respectfully suggest that you just listen to the NZ commentaries and the way the players names are being called and stop embarrassing yourselfNB: please also note that this is a much more polite post than Justin Marshall ever receives.

On the subject the Pommie dude commentating the Canes v Wolfies kept referring to Sah-vay-a. Eeek.
Different sport but a bugbear of mine on this side of the deetch is the Canberra player Josh Parparly. Papa'ali'i???
Surely it's easy enough to teach the pronunciation of short sounding vowels
Ah
Ay
Ee
Oh
Oou (How would you spell that ? )
then that you pronounce each vowel
and then try and make an effort.A year or so back - must have been at the Under 20s (unless he'd played 7s?) - Tevita Lie was getting a run despite the NZer in commentary continually pronouncing it correctly.
And as an aside heard Jim the sportsguy on Sky News (Cullinan? Veitch's mate) telling us that "Mo-Anna" was a good movie.

Apart from the pronunciation thing (which Fitzy has no excuse for) he is also now in the business of creating new myths for the rugby public and press over here.
I have heard him on more than one occasion explain to everyone how Steve Hansen totally controls who is playing where and when in Super Rugby and how AB players will be rested at Shag's request whenever he feels like it to ensure they are in peak condition for the Lions.
No mentions that it is part of the player's contracts that they have to have time off or that Read is actually injured and not being told he can't play. -
Hey guys!
This is Sean Fitzpatrick. You guys know me better as Fitzy. Long time reader first time poster. Thanks for the feedback, I'll make the pronunciation changes accordingly. Then everything will be cow pie. Cheers Fitzy.

You were a "full credit" away from convincing us there.

It was a post of 2 halves.

The pronunciation of Maori and Pacific words among main stream New Zealand has come along way since Fitzy last lived in NZ.
True, but he is now paid to watch and comment on NZ games, with tests and Super Rugby. He gets to watch and listen to NZ commentators yet makes no attempt to either realise he is wrong or just doesn't give a shit because his pommy mates don't care either.
I'm not even asking for perfect vowel sounds but obvious ones. e.g. TJ and Nisbo don't pronounce names like Laban or Sumo do but at least make a good effort

I've heard from a few folk that have met him that Fitzy is a fuckwit of Mike Brewer proportions. His arrogance in not bothering to know anything doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
Dunno who these folks are ... but can't agree at all. Met him a few times and sort of worked with him. Thought he was a great speaker, inspiring and nice guy.

Norm Hewitt is the only name I'll confirm. He won't mind cos he put it in a book.
