best games of footy

Only a Man U supporter would say that and rightly so!
My memory of that game was a pretty turgid performance from Man U until the last 2 minutes!
2005 was the best CL final ever

That Final was the first time I have agonised and celebrated for a team that wasn't mine. Was a huge night

BTW the best game of footy EVER was 3rd Test v SA 1981, Eden Park.
Faaaark ...

@reprobate in the best interests of your mate I'd probably avoid any games pre-2005. The laws and interpretation have changed quite a bit that those older games almost seem like a different sport. Save you explaining it all as well.
Show him some of the NZ derbies from the last couple of years of Super rugby. The Welsh tests from earlier this year and the third test of the OZ v Poms series was pretty decent good for running rugby too.

Cowboys v Broncos GF last year
Cowboys v Broncos SF this year -
"Pretty decent good" is a brilliant new phrase, definitely stealing that. Cheers @ACT-Crusader

Super Rugby Final 2014, not just because my team won^ but because it was a massive fucking event with 62,000 in the best display of Waratahs fandom I've ever seen. It'll never be repeated and the crowd record will take some beating.
^and not just because the Crusaders lost, and not just because Richie gave away the crucial penalty, of course
Bledisloe #1 2000, even though we lost. Helluva game, 109k in the stadium soaring to heights then sinking to lows.

I would agree with a few that have been listed
2015 rwc final
2015 Qtr final vs France
2015 2nd Bledisloe (or pretty much any Bledisloe at Eden park from the last 10 years)
2013 ABs vs Boks at Ellis park (one of the best games ive ever seen)
2011 rwc pool game vs France
And pretty much any Hurricanes or Highlanders game from the last couple of years. For some older stuff
1st/2nd lions tests in 2005
ABs - France eoyt 2004. That game signalled the begining of the current AB run for me (2008/2009 being a blip on the way) -
The dirty secret from the 2000 season is the best watch isn't the Sydney test, isn't the Wellington heartbreaker - it's the Ellis Park against the Boks.
Tota front foot rugby with two of the best backlines ever, droppies, scrums, packed crowd. The works.
If he asks why Leon MacDonald gives the game up at the end - I still to this day have no idea.
